I have a greddy S bov and ive been playing with it for the last week to try to make it stop fluttering. (gotta love compressor surge) My only problem is.. the screw on the top is as loose as it can go and it still flutters and makes that ch ch ch noise. Could i have a leak somewhere... or am i just going to have to live with the fluttering? Any ideas would be very helpful... ;)

Same problem here. I am gonna try to tap my MBC somewhere else instead of Tee'd with the BOV. Not sure if it is gonna help but I will try it anyway.

Are you sure you aren't confusing compressor surge with your BOV opening? if the BOV is set to open too easily (screw as loose as it can go) then the bov can just open when regularly running, and will make a "ch ch" sound.

Try tightening it down a lot, and see what happens.

That's your problem right there.

DO NOT TEE THE LINE ON THE BOV PEOPLE. IT IS NOT GOOD. BOV Line for BOV only.

Tap off the turbine housing nipple itself.

I had the same problem. If you still have compressor surge you can take one of the springs out, but it may change the sound.

But whats for the people who don't have the compressor nipple? I had compressor surge too at low boost, but i took out the inner spring and it fixed the problem.

Compressor surge and BOV flutter are two completely different things. You'll need to know which one you have in order to find the correct way to fix the problem.

That being said, I have "fixed" more Type S's than I care to count simply by t-eeing the MBC somewhere besides the BOV line. Type S does not like to share. (This fixes BOV flutter, but NOT compressor surge.)

So with all this said would you experts recommend a crushed 1g BOV to a Greddy Type S? Im in the market to buy one right now and It would be nice to have a good oppinon from some of you expert tuners.

Some of us dont have a nipple on the 16g outlet elbow. Where can we tap from the boost controller if not the BOV vac line?

I am probably going to tap the turbo outlet pipe and put a nipple on it.

That way the BOV will have its own boost scource and the manual boost controller should spike less because it gets the pressure reading closer to the turbo.

Goro21,

I agree with Enigma_Man and jayntguru in the fact that we need to distinguish between what's commonly referenced as 'compressor surge' when infact it is blow off flutter. Heck, I'm thankful someone corrected me.

If either of you guys [ Enigma_Man / jayntguru ]would look at the "Compressor Surge" thread [ http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7707 ] and possibly make sense out of my word soup it would be greatly appreciated.

I feel like most of the tuners are quick to associate this sound as compressor surge when infact most can be dismissed as blow off flutter which in most cases (I've surely seen this with my old Type S) can be dialed out with making adjustments to the valve.

Thanks,

Yea, it took me awhile to distinguish between the two also.. but I was actually getting compressure surge at the time. When i switched from my old 20g to the new FP green the fluttering stopped for whatever reason =)
