Valve cover baffle-What Exactly is its purpose?

Alright, So i've done a little searching in the forums and so far as i've found, I see that people remove the cover to clean under it, then reweld it back on. I was just wondering, what exactly, besides to keep oil from spraying from the vents and pcv valve, is the purpose of it?

Is it possible to just weld on little block plates that will keep oil from spraying out over the pcv valve port and vent?

I've heard removing the baffle allows better oil flow to the cams- is that true?

Thanx guys,
Bill

It's also arranged to drain oil back onto the rocker assemblies. Removing it would take away that additional oiling.

There is a lot of hype with this baffle removal subject, I dont have baffles in my valvecover, and I have -10AN bungs and vent tubes on my valvecover, i dont end up with any oil in my catchcan, I have had this setup on my car for a month now and have had no problems with oil buildup in the catchcan.

Its all about where you place the vents on the cover.
