my car has 117k miles and i dont like to drive it cuz i hate to add more miles to it. Im thinking about saving up money for an EVO3 engine which people say is a direct drop in. Should i get one of these when my engine blows? And can i get some advide, or stuff with it.

Check your compression. 117k miles is not an indication of the state of the block.

Evo3 motor is a direct swap but good luck finding one. The JDM motors are usually Galant VR4 engines.

This is not an advanced question and will be moved from Extreme Tuners forum.

you could just find a good 6 bolt and swap injectors and get a 16g. but if you want 11's then you should prolly get closer to a 20g. An evo engine will be hard to find and will prolly cost an @ss load of $$$ because of the rarity. Might as well go with something easier to find.

EVO III engines are 1st gen 7 bolts with nice bolt ons (16G, EVO exhaust Manifold, EVO O2 housing, 9:1 pistons), and a lower flowing head. Same rods, same crank, same block.

Anyone who tells you you're getting a Japanese engine with 60k or less mileage, "Perfect running condition" is giving you crap. I've looked around, and the only place that I could find was taikaira which wanted 5k for the evo3 motor and tranny. No guarantees on it either. I've had a friend who bought a 3SGTE for his Celica All Track that was supposed to have "ONLY 40k AND FLAWLESS". Yeah, it got a steam cleaning. When he pulled it apart, all the oil lines were cloged from the fact that the motor oil had probably never been changed, huge amounts of carbon build up on the pistons showing that there was a ton of mileage on it, yadda yadda yadda.

You could build one nice 6 bolt for 5k, with Jun stuff, even.

Actually the EVO has 8.7:1 compression pistons and really isnt worth the cash to what you could get elsewhere. I dont knwo why you think your engine is goins to "bust". People think that cause they have high miles that its just gonna blow up  I bought my car with 136k on it and had driven it hard as hell, ran a bunch of twelves and auto-xed in it all meanwhile adding up the miles and aquiring about 145k on it. The compression was about 160psi across the board, why? Because it was taken care of :thumb: If you think that your going to need a new motor then for 2500$ you can just get a nice 6 bolt and get it rebuilt and still have money for a bigger turbo. Ive sold 2 motors in good condition now for about 500$. That would leave you with 2 grand to do what you want with it...

Try these for motors http://www.slowboyracing.com/Race_Engines.html

Good luck dude:dsm:

No, EVO3 motors have 9:1 compression. Later EVO's dropped to 8.8:1 compression because they found it was just too much.

Yeah, that's the site I was referring to on the EVO motors with Trannies. Way too much still.

Considering you haven't even checked the state of your current engine, bitching about when your car 'busts' seem like you are ready to fock the prom queen but you haven't even said hi yet. You got a long way to go.

Step1: Make sure the state of your current engine. Do a compression test and a leak down test. Until you do this, you won't know how far away from a rebuild you are.

Step2: If a rebuild is in order, just buy a 6-bolt built block and have someone who knows what they are doing build it up. It will hold as much if not more power than any JDM engine you could possibly import.

You 'hear' a lot but you don't listen do you? There are plenty of thread on how hard a 6-bolt swap is.

Ooops I meant 8.8:1 =)

Anyway code gsx, you should listen to what ws said in this post. I gave you links in my first post that show you what you can have for the same prices (better performance to). Its really not that difficult to swap in a 6 bolt, it seems overwhelming but its not. Dont give up on your motor either you wussy =) Stick it in there and use it for what it is.... like I said I was the 150k mile 12 second auto-xing nutt case!!

i just picke dup a galant vr-4 motor with the cyclone intake and tranny for 2000...it's the six bolt crank and everything was in great working order...i have a 95 tsi that i dropped the engine into and aside from adding a few 2G parts and triming up one of the motor mounts it was an east swap...(i've done a few dsm's so i had some practice...)

go to magnusmotorspotrs.com and they have a "how to" on this swap...personally just because your engine has lots of miles dosen't mean anything at all...i know several dsms that have stock internals with around 150K on them running low to mid 12's...that's at 5280' above sea level too...i would build your engine until something happens to it...see if you can hit the 11's , then if you run into problems fix them as they come...:dsm:

listen to Candela and the others on this one.

My car has almost 220 thousand Kilometers on it. Thas like, what 130k miles??

Still fine, and I run it pretty hard. Not abuse, but hard.

You probably had freinds with Camaros, or Mustangs or Hondas that told you your engine was a POS and that is is gonna blow up. Well they are wrong. Of course your car might blow up tomorrow, as mine might or the guy with a brand new Mercedes with 15 miles on it. Mechanical things are like that. BUT it might last 3 or 4 more years or even longer!

And yea, get a JDM GVR4 motor. Just as good(some ways even better) and alot cheaper. Or just get a wrecker 6 bolt(89-march 92) turbo engine, and stick it in the shed/basement for the time being. Then when/if you need it, have a good shop rebiuld it for ya and you are ready to go.

I got a evo 3 front clip and a compleat rear end for my awd spyder shipped to my shop for 3000.00 they will bolt right in spring for the for the clip so you get every thing.. I am putting all the evo 3 susp. in my car also then make your money back sell the stuff you dont need on ebay

Thats alot of money for a engine that has a shitty head, intake manifold, and other ####, and wont ever make as much power as a 6 bolt with the same mods...

16g, fmic, larger injectors, nbetter exhaust, higher compression, better exhaust manifold....280 crank hp on japaneese 96+ octane....YAY

I like how this guy only listens to the guy wiht the stupid idea.:D

dude stfu, ive asked people in person that have alot of experience with dsms and they said its hard ####ing work and alot of money to stick a 1g engine in a 2g. I want a direct drop in.
