exhaust side wheel dragging-rebuild?

i have the 14b off the car.i pulled the housing so i could port it.i noticed that the wheel on the exhaust side drags a little when i spin and push it in.is this normal?

you should not be able to "push in" a wheel.

Yes, this is axial play. This means that the thrust bearing is likely toast. A rebuild kit can be had for cheap. I wouldn't go try to hunt down a good 14b, considering how much abuse most of us have put one through. If the blades are in good shape (you did mentionthe turbine is binding), then a rebuild will be your best bet. Don't forget to mark the nut, shaft, and wheels so that you don't have to rebalance.

How many miles are on this unit? MHI units don't break unless there was an oil problem or there was excessive abuse. Garretts are similar but nt quite as tough. Holset is better than both. If any of these turbos break and you havn't abused it, then find out why the turbo blew before rebuilding/replacing.

82k on the turbo
it not binding,just when i spin it,hangs up a little.i try to push/pull and theres no play.

the bottom of the wheel is whats dragging.

OOHHH!! Is it dragging when clamped properly in the turbine housing? All my MHI turbos bind on the bottem of the exhaust wheel somewhat when the CHRA is not connected to the turbine housing. But once clamped properly, the turbine wheel "backplate" clears the turbine wheel fine and they spin freely. . .
