I am helping a friend install his FMIC kit and we have this Jaz coolant overflow bottle. We dont understand as you can see in the pic, how it is supposed to hold any coolant. The stock overflow tank is actually a tank, that when the coolant needs to get out, it comes out the top again. This one has a hose nipple on both top and bottom. How the hell is this thing supposed to hold any coolant?

Here is what you can do with that coolant bottle:

Option 1
Run the line from the waterneck into a "T" fitting. Make sure the "T" is close to the top of the catch can. Run a short length of tube from the "T" into the catch can. The other nipple of the "T" should have a line on it that points down at the street. This is 1) so air in the bottle can escape and be displaced by liquid, 2) incase the bottle gets full pressure can still be relieved. Cap the fitting on the bottom of the catch can.

Option 2
Same as above but use a "double T", run a line from the nipple on the bottom of the catch can back into the extra nipple on the "double T". This will be closest to the stock system.

Remember that simply capping the bottom will not work, no coolant will be able to enter the bottle because there will be nowhere for the air inside to escape and be displaced by the water. Something will blow.

Mount the overflow vertical and run the line from the waterneck to the bottom and then just have a hose coming out the top for the overflow..

Wow, I'm stupid.

Yeah, that would work the best.

I am relocating the coolant bottle, since my intake interferes with it, and was going to switch the battery to the rear of the car, and put the coolant bottle where the battery used to be. Will there be a problem with this in terms of when I go get my inspection. I know here in DFW area of TX, all the standards have been boosted up some, and I am not sure if where the coolant is located now is done for a reason or what. Can someone shed some light on this for me.

I have been looking to upgrade my coolant overflow tank.. Is there anything I should take into consideration, such as size or brand? I see a lot of 2' x 13, 15, 17, 19", etc.... There are the ones on eBay for around $30-$45, metallic, that seem like a good deal, but I want to check before doing anything.

thats moire ghetto than the depot racing performance shop....i love it!

You can use just about anything for a coolant tank, it's just a bucket. The pressure cap on your filler does the regulation of expansion/retrieval. More than ten bucks is wasted money, but some have that much to waste.
The Gatorpiss bottle will work fine, just replace it a couple of times a year, it's not meant to last.

autozone 10 bucks

Anyone have any IDea how much coolant a 2g holds. I just bought a 1 gallon tank of 40 below stuff, it said to use the whole gallon then fill the rest of the way up with water... Only problem is, I barely got the gallon's worth in, no room for water.

Should I leave it or what?

(sorry Kinda a Newb)

I would like to find a bottle that could be wired into the low radiator warning light. I remember one horror story or a lower rad hose busting and since the guy didn't hook the overflow back up he never got a warning light. -Ian

I'm building an intercooler sprayer and don't want to use the wiper fluid reservoir in the hatch because of having to run wires and hose the length of the car. I am trying to fit a small tank under the hood, however we all know how cramped the 2g engine bay is. So it crossed my mind that mabey I could disconnect the overflow bottle from the coolant system and use that as my sprayer tank. But before I do, I just wanted to make sure the overflow bottle isnt absolutely necessary.

I know that excess coolant gets put there and can be drawn back in later. But I don't see why you couldnt just dump the tube off the thermostat housing to the ground and then just check your coolant periodically to make sure it isnt low? I am way off, can I do this?

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

ya could prob fit a tank under the batery -- you got steve tek- so theres no fuel filter there.. and if ya toss'd the charcole can ya prob got lots of room

Well, the answer to your question is actually another question.....

Do you ever want to run the car at the track? If so then the answer to your question is yes. You have to run an overflow tank if you want to be able to get onto any NHRA teched track. Now, if you want to use the actual overflow tank, then you can do that, but you are going to have to replace this tank with some other type of overflow tank if you want to be able to run it at the track.

Plus you could move the battery to the trunk and really have room to play with.
