ebay Cat Converters without heat shields?

Anyone had an experience with the SS hi-flow cat converters you see on Ebay? Could the fact that they have no heat shield create performance/smog check problems? I know, I know, you get what you pay for, but I'm attempting to avoid paying $150 for a measily cat conveter, and am only buying one so I can have the local shop bolt up a custom 3" catback. I'm keeping it legal so please don't tell me to buy a test pipe. Thanks for any info.

The one's on ebay look more like straight through resonators to me.

Yea thats the one, it will fit if you have a 3inch exhaust

You could easily have flanges welded on, or you could have the ends swaged a tad and get some u bolts and make it a slip fit type setup for going to track, etc...
