I took my GS-T to get a blow off valve installed that i ordered (turboxs rfl) and they told me it'd be cheaper to buy the adapter from them instead of having them weld it. So i said okay. And then the guy tells me that i need to go buy a plug to plug up the open intake hose but in the mean time he'll make a plug. so he sticks a pennzoil cap in there and clamps it. They put the BOV on, and automatically stick all the washers in it and close the hood, give me the keys and told me im done and i can go. i leave and start driving around and all of a sudden my check engine light comes on, then i get home and install my new cone filter & adapter and then leave. I noticed that it will start to stumble whenever i give it gas and i hear the turbo starting to spool up. So i found a nice open road and floored it. It really was jerking around alot, and the boost jumped past 20psi, and when i was in 4th it was jerkin pretty bad and the boost was goin from 13-16 psi back and forth. I also noticed that if i cruise around and slowly bring the rpm's up to about 4500 all of a sudden it seems like sometimes (not always) the bov will leak or something because the bov does an odd whistle and then i stop hearing the turbo spooling up. This all started happening after i installed the cone filter. i ran with the bov fine with the stock airbox. My friend had the exact same car with the exact same bov and filter and ran it smoothly with no problems but doesnt remember what he did. He thinks it might have to do with spark plugs and maybe i need new ones or maybe there are to many washers in the bov? Any other clues? To me it seems like the bov is leaking some how thats why the boost keeps fluctuating and because its leaking, it could be causing the jerking. Tomorrow my apexi n1 exhaust and downpipe should be arriving. I dont know if that will make my problem worse or help. :-\

oh and also. i read the manual that came with the adapter kit and apparently it was supposed to come with a plug :-\

Your not supposed to vent the BOV it is suppossed to be like stock and recurculate.

So buy one that recurculates and the problems will be fixed.

Doesnt the outlet on the rfl have a big ass horn so it isn't good for recurculating?

yeah, the RFL has a bigass horn on the end, and it can't be recirculated,
but regardless, it shouldnt be running that bad, there are numerous people venting w/o any major probs.

more than likely there's a leak somewhere, try leak testing the system...
and make sure that the plug on the intake pipe is good and not letting any air in...

Ya, i was thinking that maybe it had something to do with the plug, ill check it out and see! thanks.

Alright so i got my exhaust and downpipe installed and now im hitting 18 psi and getting fuel cut and im mis-fireing. Any ideas? Only thing i can think of is upgrade sparks, upgrade fuel pump and injectors, and get a VPC.

search on venting vs not venting... i really recommend NOT venting to the atmosphere and buying that adapter kit...

another thing: stop upgrading your car until you get it running correctly!

Ian

ian - with the turboXS RFL , you HAVE to vent. there is no adapter kit to recirculate.

I have a greddy type s valve vented and my car runs fine. You deffinatly want to check for leaks in the system. My greddy has an adjustment screw on the top for the spring in the valve and if it's to loose it will run like poop.

Do like "alIan" said! Do a search on venting and not! Like everyone else said..... you should have a BOV that recirculates. Certain ECUs are very picky about recirculation. Just because one ECU will let you do it does not mean that "every ECU" will. Just because your ECU is not giving you problem(that you know of) doesn't mean that it's running the way it should. Do it right the first time and recirculate.

Well actually my car doesn't run any different now than when it wasn't vented!!!

juuuuust wanted to let you guys know i got everything fixed. all i did was take out 2 washers, clean my sparks, and make the gap smaller (it CAN be done on stock plugs, its easy and fun!). But now im running fine!
