Hello everyone. I think my balance shaft is out of phase 180 deg. My question is this, being out of phase, would this cause my oil pressure to be lower? Also... the vibration you get that is very bad when the balance shaft is out of phase, will this vibration be the same? As far the the aggressiveness of it, will it stay the same or be worse if I decide to eliminate my balance shafts? I've tried to research this but could not find my answer, if I drive the car the way it is until I get the money to fix the balance shaft situation would this do any damages to the motor? Thanks.

The first thing you need to do. Is check the balance shafts to see if they are actually 180* out of phase. That can easily be done by removing the bolt in the back of the block that gives you acces to the balance shafts to see what position they are in.

Was a recent timing belt job done to your car?

How low is the oil pressure? When is the oil pressure low? And no. Balance shafts being out of phase wont lower your oil pressure.

A balance shaft elimination kit and some gaskets is really cheap. Unless you are paying someone else to do it. Labor can be pricey on that job.

The thing that I fear for you.....is that one of the balance shaft bearings is shot. That would cause the oil pressure to go down a bit. And you might be able to hear the balance shaft wobbling around. I know I did.

How do you tell if the balance shaft bearings is shot? Am I okay to drive the car at all? Thanks.

Remove the balance shafts, and you wont have to worry about it. :)

Dont let me scare you. Hopefully everything is ok. How low is your oil pressure? And when does it go low? And check to see if its out of phase or not. Then I can further help you with your problems.

Having it be out of phase will definately cause a vibration. They are there for driveability of the motor. The only thing that will happed from removal is more oil pressure and more power. I can definately feel the motor alot more. Which isnt bad. Its about a 5 hr job to remove them. Get the kit. I didnt and it took a bit longer and you have to be REALLY careful. good luck dude.
