How to identify turbo JDM 4G63

How exactly do you know if the engine you're looking at is a turbo IF the turbo is OFF the car? I am looking at a 93 Eclipse w/ a JDM 4G63. The owner told me that he bought the engine w/ no manifold, no intercooler, no turbo. He told me that he slapped a n/a manifold on it and just uses it that way.

So how exactly do I know if this is a turbo engine and not the N/A version? thanks
 
If its a non turbo 4g63 the throttle body wont have an elbow, just a lip to clamp a coupler/intake pipe to. Assuming its a stock intake mani/tb.

Also check for the IC piping hole in the passenger side wheelwell.

JDM turbo 4g63's from an evo1-3 and a chariat have normal throttle bodies( with a lip)
try to look at the turbo and the color of the injectors
your best bet is to follow this

he said he changed the throttle body b/c it was cracked. He said that he checked the original TB and said that it was bigger than the N/A so that's how he verified that it's a turbo motor.

PS- The car is a GS.

You could do a compression test also I am not sure of the exact numbers but an n/a 4g63 will have higher numbers across the board than a 4g63t because of the lower compression pistons.
 
I like pooker's idea. You could also record the numbers on the block/head, and ask Satan what it is supposed to come installed in.
 
If he says that all he did was put a N/A exhaust manifold on it then you might want to look at the sump where the turbo oil return line goes.
It should be blocked off if it was a turbo motor and he is just using it N/A.
 
I found out that it's a n/a b/c the compression turned out to be 200psi on #1.

to sum it up:

for a turbo motor
160's compression (average)
oil pan return line (in the front, two bolts with a hole in the middle)
knock sensor
blue top injectors (right?)
Any turbo related lines such as biss or others
 
NA blocks have a 7T cast into the backside of the block right by the oil pan lip.

Turbo blocks have 7T3 cast into them..

Its hard to get where you can see it because its under where the starter is mounted...but I identify NA blocks all the time by the 7T cast into the backside.

(* the 7 in the marking is really a different digit that looks like a backwards 7)
