Quick question , I was wondering how you can hook up slimline fans to an ignition on without blowing relays or fuses? .

Im using a switch to turn them on currently

If you dont intend to have the computer control it, use the fan relay thats already in your car.

Then that means the stock wiring wouldnt blow fuses because its hooked up to a relay but it does blow up electronic equipment

so let me get this straight. you are blowing up stuff with the fans wired like stock? right now you have your fans wired to a relay, fuse, and a switch currently????

mine is wired up like stock and works just fine...

well ( as you know ) i get my new fans soon . Hooked to the stock wiring they were blowing fuses and i had that problem in my 91 also .

hmmmm.....thats weird. you cant wire them incorrectly. if you put the ground to positive and positive to gound you end up making the fan a pusher instead of a puller. were you shorting out the wiring in someway? i have never busted a fuse with the way they are wired right now...

ill try to get some pics tomorrow....

First, you need to make sure the slimfans you purchased do not pull more amperage than your stock fans pulled. I cannot provide this information to you off of the top of my head. However if you post the amperage your new slimfans are pulling I will go outside and tell you what the stock fans pull. You're going to need a voltage meter to do this.

Second, if it turns out they are direct replacements and don't pull more amperage than your stock fans do, then I would vigerously check my wiring to make sure there are no cuts or scars in the wiring that would short them out.

Third, if your fans aren't pulling more amperage, and your connectors are fine.. and you have no reason to believe that there are any knicks or cuts anywhere else in the system, then you have a bad fan and the electrical components inside are shorting your circuit to ground and killing your fuse.

If those things check out then you shouldn't have any problems. I do not recommend putting a larger fuse in place of the current one or you will have more problems than you do now.

Let me know if you need help getting the amperage.

Okay, wow.. after re-reading your first post, I just realised my last post was if you were wiring to stock, sorry. I suggest wiring directly the battery (with inline fuse), or the first lead directly off of the battery to the inside of your car which should be somewhere near your MFI Relay, check your haynes manual to see the schematic.

Ammeter.

Never seen a voltage meter that doesn't have an amp meter on it.. and visaversa
