Me and a buddy of mine were picking out a exhaust for his GST, he doesn't have much money and he found this product here

http://meganracing.com/products/product_detail.asp?prodid=210&catid=91

However hes not sure if he should go with the 2.5 inch or the 3 inch set-up. He also wants to buy a FMIC but hes unsure of what one to get, since he wants to just buy a bolt on and not take the time to fabricate his own out of a spearco intercooler. and hes boosting his T25 to 16 pounds at the moment with no problems.

So heres what i need to know.

Whats better to run a 2.5" or 3"

He wants a FMIC but doesn't know what one to buy, hes willing to spend 1 grand on this however he wants NO long pipes, like the Apexi has, I personally told him to go with a 3" set-up and to get this FMIC set-up (Greddy 24R)

http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=143&

However he probably would be just fine with the 18R Core

Also what is the best FMIC for a 2g DSM in the first place?

Any suggestions? or feedback and or advice? Also when we figure out what we want il be sure to take pictures and do a tech article so help me out here.

For the exhaust, I havent heard anything bad about it. I dont see too many people using megan exhaust, but their downpipe is somewhat widely used with no problems. 2.5" is the minimal i would go on the size of exhuast. The size is fine, most say its more than enough; I personally would go with 3". As for the fmic, there hasnt been any real proof for performance wise whether long route or short route is better. Techincial boost response would be slower for long route, but the difference is so small you wont even notice it. For a bolt on fmic, the only ones i can think of that doesnt involve modifying or fabing up anything is the greddy, apexi, or this. I would go with the 24R on Greddy. Yes, it is oversized on the T25 and you will be losing about 300 rpm on full spool but thats kind of a good thing, so you dont spin the wheels too much. Since your friend has the money for the intercooler I would go with the third fmic, its short route and a direct bolt on. I have heard nothing but positive things about their intercooler.

The choice between 2.5 and 3" exhaust depends on your power goals.

Many many people have bought the $300 XS/SSAC ebay FMIC. There is a huge thread about it. For the best money can buy, you can look into SBR, Extremeintercoolers, Buschur or any other FMIC that doesn't have long piping like the Greddy FMIC. You also need to add the cost of an upper intercooler pipe since the Greddy FMIC kit doesn't come with it.

Awesome thanks for the advice il be sure to have him read this thread. If anyone else has any other info, advice or idea's let me know :)

There are quite a few things you and your friend need to think about first before buying anything. For one, megan racing doesn't make a turboback, what you will need to do is buy their cat-back, downpipe, and some other O2 housing(megan racing does not make one for the 2G DSM). Since your friend is already running 16 psi i would definitely go with 3" though. And i wouldn't suggest getting an O2 housing until you upgrade the turbo because you will need to drop the turbo in order to reach a couple bolts on the housing. Which also brings me to you fmic, if you get a fmic now, you will need to get it flanged and fit to work with the T25 and T28 turbos. If you want to get anything else(14B, 16G, 20G, etc.) your fmic piping will not bolt up to that different style turbo. If i were you, i'd upgrade the turbo, get the cat-back, downpipe, new o2 housing, and new exhaust manifold. Then get yourself a wideband, egt gauge, and dependable boost gauge if you don't already have one. Then later, since you already have a turbo you want for a while, get your fmic and have a lot of fun. There are a few other things that i have left out but P.M. me if you wanna know about them or know where you can get some good kits and deals on parts. Good luck.

3" exhaust is nice. Sounds good, and if you want over 350-ish hp I'd go with a 3" right away.

3" IC piping is overkill for his car right now. If he is still running a stock turbo and these are his first mods, 2.5" will be perfect. Go with either the ebay short route FMIC, or SBR short route FMIC.

If he did the ebay kit, he'd have extra left over for fuel management.
