Hey guys my engine bay is looking pretty crappy with the weather we have up here (snow, road salt, sand, etc.) I've used Castrol Superclean before and the stuff is really strong and does a good job of getting stuff clean. I was wondering could I spray down my entire engine bay in Superclean, let it sit for 5min, and then rinse with a power-washer? I did this once before with a reg. hose and it didn't effect anything but some guy said I was lucky to not have screwed anything up. Obviously you have to stay clear of the air filter but is there anything else that it might mess with? Thanks a lot, Erick.

PS - If this is the wrong forum please move, I wasn't sure where to post - Thanks again.

i've heard it was a problem w/ older cars in general and i've always thought it wouldn't be too good to do it anyway. But i worked at a car dealership this summer and that's how we cleaned all the engines, brand new 2002s, and older, we just sprayed them w/ some cleaning #@%#@%#@%#@% and then hosed 'em down w/ a hose. Never had any problems.

You want to avoid spraying the electrical components esp the CAS sensor. I've done it before.. but I always cover the CAS, MAF, ALT, ect w/ plastic before starting. Also works better if the engine is cold... hot manifold/turbo don't like being sprayed w/ water.

I use a power washer and cover my K&N and my alternator with a plastic bag or something and spray the motor down with Greased Lightning. Let it sit for about 1 min and pressure wash the motor. I let drip dry for about 20 min and then get a can of WD-40 and spray it over everything except for K&N and alternator. Then take off the plastics i put on and sit back and let it shine. I think that it does a GREAT job to getting everything slick and shiny.

Thanks for the info guys - whats a CAS though? I'm not sure what that stands for? Erick

the thing that comes off the top left of the head I think. Definetly steer clear of the spark plugs. DIsconnect the battrery too because my bro shorted out his computer when he did his
