I have a 92 TSI setup up for straight drag. Obviously I need an external battery shutoff incase of emergency, but can I use that cut off between passes or will that dump my ECU's maps. I am using DSMLink.

Also, what is the best wire to use when creating a emergency kill switch? ECU Power??

Thanks!

The kill switch NEEDS to cut the battery positive cable. It is not designed to shut off the engine. It is designed to shut off EVERYTHING! This is for saftey, I wouldnt worry about the maps if you are on fire.

I dont want you to think I am trying to be rude by any means. I am just interested in the saftey of you and everyone else at the track. I hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the info Wiseman, and the link. Guys, don't get me wrong. This isn't our 1st drag car, its just my 1st EFI car. I know the importance of the cut off, but I was wondering if I can use the cutoff in between passes to save the battery (the car will have a small alternator, if any).

Top_street: The battery cut off is really designed to stop the growth of a fire. The cutoff switch I am referring to is if the oil pressure drops, I lose pressure, some catasrophic that the engine needs to be shut off before it gets hosed.

Anyone know what would be the best way to kill the engine? Obviously I cannot cut the fuel, I don't want to just cut the ignition, ideas??

You can wire in a kill switch between the main relay and ecu, or directly to the fuel pump.

I will wire it to the main EFI relay.. Thanks. BTW, wiring it to the FP is really bad as it will cause a really lean condition until the engine dies. With a low output motor, that shouldn't do any harm, but on a high HP motor, with nitrous and methonal injection, you are asking for trouble.
