Built an airbox....What do you think?

I built this tonight because i was bored, and I had seen a couple of these air boxes ( i guess they are air boxes) made out of metal to repell heat from the filter element.... So i went to the hardware store, got some aluminum, and started fabricating. I think it looks awesome, but i'm not sure how much benefit I'm going to get from it, if at all.... I was hoping someone with a little more expirience would chime in and let me know what they think of it. :D

Here are a lot pf pics of it. I was very detailed in taking the pictures so someone could copy my design for themselves if they wanted to...

good idea, but u should just have it blocking the hot air from the engine, leaving the top exposed to suck in more air, just a thought. but good job :thumb:

Humm...I thought that blocking off the top would block hot air from coming up and over the piping....it is blocking some hot air from coming in from the side though.... I dunno, I need to go road test it, even though I know I'm not going to feel any difference. ;)

LOL..yeah I have had the car 2 weeks now, and all the mods are in the mail or sitting next to me... So far i only have front and rear strut tower bars, and the intake you see.... The bov is coming along with RSR exhaust and spring/shocks, boost control, gauges, all the basic goodies...:D

Yeah, that would be really nice...I love the look of the filter, but also the aluminum. Ah..I can't decide!!;)

Looks very nice. I have one that looks very similar without the top part. I went to lowes and bought some thick water pipe insulating foam for mine to help it seal better to the underneath of my hood. I know it's sealing very well cause I can see where my hood has mashed down and marked the insulating foam. After hard drives this past summer I would get out of the car and touch my filter, I could tell it definately helped lower temps some what. Great job!!

I think I am going to try and make one like that with out the top, and foam on the top....

Mine is sheetmetal, got it from a home heating shop. They charged me $2 for it. I then used a nibbler to but the hole for the MAS and the edges so that it ran pretty flush with the hood. Then spend $.69 on the pipe insulation.
