Can someone explain performance diff. between T3/60-1 .63 A/R (T04E) vs. T4/60-1 .70 A/R (T04S)??? Spool up vs. top end? I'd like something that will probably see more track duty than street duty, but by no means will this car be a trailor queen only.

Thanks,
Mike

T3/60-1
Tells you its a 60-1 compressor wheel with a T3 turbine side

.63 A/R
Tells you the size of the turbone housing.

(T04E)
This is the style of thhe compressor housing used. Most t3/t4s you see have a T04e ir T04b housing.

T4/60-1
This is a straight T4. The turbine wheels used in T4s are larger than the T3's. They will usually spool a bit slower

(T04S)
The T04s compresor housing is very large. 4inch inlet on most and a 2.5 inch discharge. You will likely run into clearance issues depending on what manifold you go with.

A 60-1 (T04E) with a stage 3 T3 turbine wheel works great.

.63 A/r for more streetability, able to make 500+ whp
.82 A/r for big big horsepower capability. 600whp is possible if you have the mods and ability.

If you go with a straight T4 then you will have to keep the turbine housing A/r small otherwise you may fall asleep waiting for boost :)

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Wes,
Thanks for the input. I'm familiar with the wheels/trims of the Garrett turbos, I was looking more for opinions/input of people that have run the combos. I"m still undecided if I want a T3/60-1 or a full T4/60-1. I wouldn't mind seeing 550whp, even if it takes a little squeeze to do it. Will the T3/60-1 w/.63 A/R get me there? Or should I just take it up to the T04S/.70 A/R 60-1? Any idea how much longer that will take to spool up?

Thanks,
Mike

I have experience with both t3/t4s and straight t4's. I would have to say that the 60-1/stage3 in a .82 A/R housing is about the best all around setup. You can expect full boost at about 4300rpm (if) the rest of your setup and tuning is up to par. If you happen to go straight t4 then I would use a ~ .58 housing with either an 0-trim or p-trim wheel. I would probably go with the O-trim in this case unless you are planning on running a pretty heavy dose of nitrous as well... then I would step up to the P-trim. The 0-trim will probably only loose at most 500rpm to the t3 turbine side. However at this point I think the 60-1 wheel is pretty much maxed so there really isnt going to be any noticeable HP advantage.

How streetable is a T61 vs. T04S/60-1/.58 A/R/P-trim? When stepping up to T4's and 60-1 combos, I'm starting to get into uncharted territories as far as knowledge, info, etc as it's not the most common turbo/setup out there. Like I said, 550whp (with or without nitrous) is my realistic goal. Which turbo/combo would be best suited to get me there?

Mike

gotta bring this thread up again as more questions have arose. From speaking with various people that have run similar combos, it doesn't sound like a 60-1 would be the best fit for me and my goals. The 60 trim has very identical performance results, but offers a much quicker spoolup. However, according to a few sources that have run a 60 trim in a .63 A/R stg.III wheel, they have experienced comp. surge. What's the best way to avoid the surge? Upgrade to a stg. V wheel, or keep the stg. III and move up to a .82 A/R housing?
