About the Stock 90-92 Compression

I just got my new issue of Sport Compact Car, and in it is an article just for us DSMers who have the 4G63, and it was saying that the stock compression ratio for the 90-92 was 7.8:1, now this is what i really want to know, if that is correct about the CR, then when i get the EVO piston with the 8.7:1 CR, is that going to screw up my ignition so that i have to get a retarder, cause high compression without retarding causes ping and holes in pistons and i wanna stay clear of that with new pistons. thanks

many people go to 8.5:1 with no problems i don't see y 8.7:1 would be any diff
the car won't just let you knock to death
it'll retard itself too

Its the newest issue with the 10 Ultimate STreet Cars Finalists in it (Dan Cokic's car made the finals) as well as the car of the year ..Dodge Neon SRT-4 (cough). Its a pretty good guide with the basics which can also be found on sites like this and others. Pretty cool that they did it though.
