I need to get an engine for my 2g (crankwalk) I am going to do some road racing, and auto-x. I am also going to do some occasional drag. I can get a 6-bolt or 2.4L for around the same price. Does anyone have any information on which one would be a better choice and why? Thanks in advance.

A regular 6 bolt would do fine. It's all in your turbo selection and supporting mods that determine your overall powerband.

Although, having more torque to pull you around those corners can help too. I'd still stick with the 2L.

If you go with a 2.0l, go with at least 9:1 pistons. If I had to do it again, I would build a 2.0l with a 10:1's, but I would not recommend that to everyone. 9:1's aren't a problem. For a 2.4l block, I would go no higher than 9:1. The extra stroke will compensate for a lot.

Frankly, if I had to pick a new engine setup with no limitations, it would be 9:1 2.4l hybrid with a 2G ported head. But again, it will take some serious tuning to not blow it up. A 2.4l isn't for everyone.

If you can do the 2.4L right I'd say go with it. If you do plan on dragging, I'd plan on upgrading your Center diff (do to the extra torque off the line) as this will most likely be the weakest part of your drive train.

It should help in autox due to more torque out of corners and the decreased turbo lag. Learn how to left foot brake and you can tear those corners apart.

Hope this helps

I thought less compression and more boost was better for top end? Instead of giving away that compression to the piston or head gasket, why not cram in more air/feul?

Boost will give more power per se via compression but this thread isn't about top end. Its about autocross and torque and exhaust velocities to decrease spool and lag. :)

This is also why I say that as you up the compression or switch to a 2.4l block, tuning becomes critical as you can't just throw 25psi of boost at it and so no problem. It all comes back to tuning.

2.4l
more tourque for exiting turns
faster spoolup
as long as ur driveline is strong enough there's no downside
