rochester,
i just finished rebuilding my friends b16g turbo from rre. it had a good amount of shaft play in it, so i took it down, cleaned it and replaced the worn bearings and seals etc. upon inspection i noticed the back of the compressor whell was damaged BEFORE he got it because it looked like it had grinder wheel marks on the back side of the compressor wheel. they did not go in a circular manner so it was impossible for the turbo to make the gouges, as these were deep and straight gouges 1/2 inch across by 3/8 long. also the balancing was 180 degrees off from the marks. the thrust bearing plate had no marks. the only thing damaged was the compressor wheel, housing and bearings. i replaced them all and it works normally now, but id like to know if rre is selling doomed to be broken turbos as this would definately throw off balancing at 100,000+ rpm?
