Ive seen pictures or videos of cars who shoot a flame out the tailpipe and what about rally cars they tend to shoot flames between shifts dont they?
 
The flames and popping sounds from rally cars are due the the ALS (anti lag system). ALS retards the timing to the point that fuel ignition takes place in the manifold and turbine housing to keep the turbo spooled. Well, thats the simple version anyway.
