I just replaced the fuel filter on my 1g and after starting it up fuel was spraying from the lower fitting area. After turning the car off i made sure all my connections were tight and started it back up, nope same problem. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a faulty filter, mayb with a pinhole in it or something to that effect, or if I just cracked the line taking the filter off...Any help would be appreciated.

The banjo bolt is supposed to have 2 crush washers, one on top, one on the bottom. Are you sure those didn't fall anywhere, and not get put back in place. If not that will be the cause.

It's not the banjo bolt, its the other fitting on the bottom of the filter, thats what is giving me the problem.

I had the same problem. I just took it back off, cleaned things up and used a little bit of threadlocker when I reassembled it. No problems after that.

Thanks for the replies...Wouldnt threadlocker make it that much more difficult to get the filter back off later on down the road?

I've never had a problem removing anything I used threadlocker on down the road. It just holds things tight on the threads. I would stay away from using teflon tape. Although the filter would catch any of the teflon tape that may deteriorate, it would just clog up your fuel filter sooner than need be.

Teflon tape or any kind of sealent isn't recommended on a flare fitting, but it looks like some still do. What are you using to tighten the fitting? you should be using a proper flare wrench so you don't strip the fitting. Alot of the time the nut has to be tightened pretty tight to get a good seal, maybe you just haven't tightened it enough.

Turns out the new filter (Purolator #44662) doesnt have the right size opening for the flare fitting, it's a little bigger than the one i took off the car (unkown brand, probs OE)...im just gonna get a filter from the dealer because i can't find a store that carries anything besides purolator...Thanx for the all replies.

I am having a similar problem only mine is leaking from the banjo bolt (on top). Yes both washers are there (one one either side of the line), so what could be the problem? It's just spraying fuel evreywhere..I need to fix it asap. Do you think the washers might be bad? they look fine to me but I dunno?

P.S.
Oh I used an OEM replacement filter (WIX) which I got from my work (O'Reilly).
