I have a small 16g, walbro 255, starion front mount, SAFC and i was wondering if i need a FPR or can i get by without one? I cant afford one and would like to get this stuff put on my car tomorrow and get it running.

Some people say you can get away with a 255 and no AFPR, but most everyone on here will tell you if your pump is larger than a 190, you need a AFPR. Altough if you just want to get it running and are not going to be driving it alot it will probably be ok for a while without one.

walbro 255hp flows much more than stock fp. It will overrun your stock fpr, its been told here 1000 times. You'll have uncontrolled and undesired fuel pressure. I would suggest you to get AFPR soon...
do it right now...and dont suffer later.

You could hold off on installing the 255 and just rewire the stock pump. That'll allow you to push 16 psi or so without running lean. Then come back when you have the AFPR and install them at the same time. That way you won't have to deal with the fuel pressure problems. Before you ask, the erratic pressure cannot be tuned out with the S-AFC.

Have you actually witnessed this or you just heard it and assumed it must be true. Ive been runing a 255 hp since I bought the car without issues. People go 11's on the stock fpr its not necessary. I still have not seen one car that needed an afpr with a 255 hp. Yes an afpr would be nice, but not needed right away.

My name is dsmtuner, I don't know that much about dsms so I'll get on the bandwagon like the rest of the ####s around here and say yes you'll need an AFPR.

Sorry bout that, I just couldn't help myself. The question is a viable one, but its been asked and answered a million times. YOU DO NOT NEED AN AFPR WITH A WALBORO.

Someone please sticky this ASAP.

Well you 2 are in a rare group of anomolies...most everyone will agree that a 255 Walbro NEEDS an AFPR. I personnally would use one even if I had a 190 because I would want things as working as "correct" as possible.

I'm happy for you that you "feel" that your car runs great without an AFPR, but the sad facts are that a majority of us require one.

Thanks for playing.

It has been answered a "million times". But the answer is the opposite of what you're saying. It is stickied... in the FAQ. Except it says quite the opposite of what you're saying...

I haven't done this, but I'd like to see someone install a Walbro 255HP (we'll use an HP because you said "WALBORO"). Then install that B&M gauge that goes on the fuel filter, along with a new filter (just to eliminate variables). See what the pressure is at idle.

I'm not knocking anyone... just wondering if anyone has actually done this. If they have, link to it so we can see the results and finally have definitive proof to show the people who continually ask this question. If no one has, would someone please do it so we can finish this debate (albeit nearly a one-sided debate).

Unless you admit that the pressure will be high at idle but the ECU can compensate with it's fuel trims. That is a whole different debate. Or if you admit that the 1G's have a bigger return line and therefore might be able to compensate for the increased flow better than the 2G's (I read this, but I've never seen a 1G return line). That is a different debate as well.

i think majority ruls on this one..but here's my own experience...i was running a walbro 255hp on a stock fpr for a little bit...lucky for me i have a playback fp gauge mounted in my cockpit.....decided to play it back after weeks of tuning the car..then noticing i would be running rich again a few days or weeks later....sure enough the gauge at idle was perfect, but at wide open throttle, it would varybetween pulls by up to .4bar (a little over 6psi) swapped out for an aeromotive afpr...problem solved
