I recently sold a fellow DSMer here on DSMtuners a set of 580cc injectors. I took them straight out of my car than straight into a box for shipping. He recently emailed stating that the injectors are to long and also leaking fuel. Can you wiseman help us out? My main concern is thinking that the injectors should fit in a 2g as well in the 1g...correct?

Here is a conversation pretaining this matter, I may have left something out but ask me if you have a question.

Buyer
hey these injectors dont fit in my car i bought new seals for them installed them and gas was leaking everywhere then took them out and realized that they were to long and wouldnt ever fit. So why is that???

What type car are the injectors being installed in? They came straight out of my car working fine (1g Talon). Can you take pictures of the injectors installed on the car? Make sure everything is seated properly as in your fuel rail spacers and making sure that the injectors are on installed completely in both rail and head. Let me know what you see in those two areas. Also where is the fuel coming out at the top or bottom of the injectors?

Have you compared the stock and ones I sold you agaisnt one another? They should match in length for sure. You may also want to reinstall the stock injectors to make sure everything work with them after installing. I will look for your comments tomorrow morning and lets go from there. I dothink we can resolve the matter.

Note when you install the injectors us a small amount of vasoline on the o-rings so you will not damage them and for a easier install. Again I want to say that you may have something binding up somewhere.

Buyer
they are being installed in a 96 gst and they dont fit. when side by side the stock ones the 580s are alot taller and the gromet seal is what was leaking because they are to long and the gromet is to high then the rail gets bolted down and turns the gromet at an angle and causes a leak. they are to tall. side by side they are like a half an inch taller

Kinda lost with the gormet deal but have you tried to install the injectors on the fuel rail while it is complety off the car to get a better view of things. If thinking correctly the gormets will slide down the neck of the injector. They looked the same when I took them out as the day I installed them so I can not tell you if they was worn or not. The 850cc have went in the same way and they are the same length as the 580cc. Try installing them on the fuel rail first then guiding them in through head. We have the same motor I dont see why they are working. Let me know of any other progress.

Buyer
i have done everything by the tech article on here and the gromets slide past the lip and get all tangled up. Ive tried everything they just dont fit.

I dont see why they wouldnt work for him. Ive swapped 1g injectors into my 2g with no problems. When I bought my 580cc's I wasnt even asked for the year of my car because they work on 90-99.

maybe the rail isn't totally connected into the injectors and in turn maybe the injectors aren't totally into the head/intake manny.

Also, maybe he think's they're "too long" because he lost the fuel rail spacers. Little black spacers that space out the rail from the injector ports.

There is no difference in size btwn them. 1g's can use 2g's and vice versa, which is why they don't sell injectors specific to generation.

As for why they aren't working, i dunno. If they were working for you, and now not for him, sounds like he may have screwed up something in the install. Just my 2cents.

Somethings up, they should definately work in his car. Someone made a mistake somwhere. Either you sold him something other than what you had in your car on accident (don't see how this would happen), or he is doing something wrong/broke them and wants his money back. I don't mean to be Mr. Negativity, but there is no way that the injectors won't fit in his car, someone is lying.

I'd like to see a picture of the 580's next to his stock injectors. When I put in my 850's I put them side-by-side with my 450's and they were the exact same height. He must be doing something wrong.

Maybe what he needs is a new set of lower injector seals. The originals are probably too hard to be reused with the new injectors. Just an idea.

edit: Now that I think about it more, it does sound like he's missing the fuel rail spacers. When he screws down the rail the injectors get pulled at an angle and that causes the seals to "slide past the lip and get all tangled up".

He is a new member to the site I am assuming that he is new to certain things. He emailed me also stating that he was not mad or even wanting his money back just trying to figure out why they don't work. He just emailed me to let me know that he has a 1g that he will install the injectors in this coming weekend when he only has a chance to.

I have also suggested this to him but he mentions that he check all the above. And thats where the post came in mind to get better ideas of what it maybe. But I do believe something not seating correctly but again I am not pointing at him telling him he did it all wrong b/c I am not sure what he did or didn't do. I just want to help him to solve the problem.

As basic as it sounds, did he make sure ALL of the seals are out of the mani before putting in the new injectors? Just another thought.

90-99 injectors are ALL the same. Injectors are interchangeable. He obviously has no clue what he is doing and does not know how to install them.

^^ It was established already that the injectors are the same. Otherwise that was an extreamly helpful post. (Sense the INTENSE sarcasm)

Don't post if you're not going to try to help.

O.P., I would try to talk to him and maybe get pics of how he installed. Or maybe a small write-up of what he did. There has to be something that went even mildly amis for him. Pics are probably the best way to tell.

Yes, his inbox gotten full as we was messaging back and forth but I did suggest getting pics once, I will mention it to him once again when I can get in contact with him.

Yes like everyone else has said they should fit both 1g & 2g and something probably up with his install. What injectors did you sell him? (brand) Is it possible that he used the wrong seals for that injector (ie FIC aren't the same as RC or stock, HRC doesn't use one of the spacers). I'd get him to take a picture of one of the new injectors side by side with one of the stock injectors so we can see whats going on here.
