While trying to finish my FMIC install today, i ran into trouble mounting my drivers side pipe. My FMIC(look in profile for size, i can't remember, sorry), is using long route piping for this. After the pipe makes the U-bend to go back behind the radiator, there is a huge metal wall there, its the same metal the the tow hooks are on. How am i supposed to put my piping through that, there is also more metal behind that.

Another quick question, how do you make the hole for the passenger side UICP bigger. The hole that goes into the fender, i need it big enough for my pipe, but my hole saw just dances around instead of cutting. Thanks for your help guys.

well i dont know about the driver side but to make the hole bigger you can do what we do at work place a piece of wood behind the hole lets say the bottom secure it in place with a couple of screws. then center you holesaw from the top and drill away you will first drill thought the metal then the wood, all the word does is keep the piolit bit from searching for a spot. works every time. got ? pm me.

I don't the exacts on the driver side hole, but I do know that in the super long "johnny racecar fmic" thread, there were some questions from the 1g guys about this problem, and some guys provided answers with pictures. It's just gonna take some searching to find it in there (that thread). For the pass. side hole, you could also use a dremel with a cut off disc.

I went around it. I used 2 modified 90's On regular 90* and the other one I cut at an angle to go around it. Its a tight squeeze but it fit.

For the Drivers side, i don't want to go around, it will fit, but it will be alot of extra angles and money to do it. I would love to see a picture of someones piping that went right through that big metal plate(i will look in the other thread too). For the passenger side, i don't have a problem with the pilot bit skating around, the pilot bit goes right in the middle of the existing intercooler hole, my problem is the hole saw part skating around. I would rather use that than get in there with a cut off wheel, its just more precice.

Ok I had this same exact problem while I was installing my cooler this is the hoel I had to make here the image

I used a 3" hole cutter and then a dremel with a metal cutting bit to make it larger and finally got to the other side and fit my 2.5" piping threw I hope this helps(sorry fot the pic being so big i dont exactly know how to resize them so if someone wants to resize it be my guest i just didn't know how to)

Thank you SO much, that is exactly what i want to do! I was going to use a plasma cutter tomorrow and cut a nice circle in the thick metal, since my hole saw can't cut paper! Thank you, i'll post back tomorrow with any news.

Plasma cutter worked wonders. I had a little trouble with the big post the crossmember bolt goes through, but i fit the pipe in there. Its a tight fit between the radiator and the post, which may be a problem when i get a new radiator, but hey, it works now.

Perfect im glad I was able to help you and with that 2.5" piping you might need a slim fan for the a/c fan for clearence. Thats what I had to do if you need anymore help juts let me know you can get my AIM id under my profile
