I just wanted to know what is the biggest aftermarket turbo would I be able to SAFELY put without really having to build up my engine? thanks, joe
 
when you say build up your engine im assuming you mean internals.. well you can run ALOT of different turbos on stock internals but none of them will do jack without proper supporting mods and tuning.
 
umm...I disagree. I think its all about tuning. 4G63's are boost happy when tuned juuuussssstt right. I will be running a 60-1 on my car with absolutely no internal mods. People are hittings 11's all day with stock ignition and internals. It's all about tuning.

It IS all about tuning.

If you are just going to bolt on another turbo, and not do any other mods, you may as well not even bother. The stock 14b(standard tranny) turbo is good for over 300hp.
 
well.......just like larryd and everyone else said, you can run any turbo, and get different results. If any of you guys are familiar with dsmtalk and some of the guys on the bord there is a guy by the name s/n "JAY HASS" that has a friend running an FP RED ON STOCK INTERNALS pumping out 494 hp! 6bolt of course. But anyway i would say if you are a 1g awd you should try to max out your 14b as much as you can, like said above the 14b is good for 300hp and 12's in the quartermile so its a decent turbo. you might want to tell us what kind of numbers you expect from your car......but i would recomend the big16g or a 20g with obvious supporting modds.

After I got bigger turbo, I can't say 'it doesn't do jack' exactly...

Basically top end is has improved drammatically, but low end is suffering a bit though... Overall, it reduced my cruising EGT by about 100F* and made car a LOT smoother. This is all before I get to tunning it...
 
good to hear :)

with all the mods done(almost now) before I upgrade my turbo, it will be sweet when I drop in a ball bearing mutt, like say an ETE32 or similar :)
