2g MAS adapter

Sorry I'm a newbie and I have a question if anyone can clear things up for me. I have a 98 GSX and I'm bought an injen intake for it. What is the 2G MAS adapter that I hear people talking about. Can anyone explain what this is? Thanks.

There is a 2g mas adapter plug for people with 1gs that want to run the 2g mas. Since you already have a 2g you will not need an adapter. Maybe an adapter to run a cone filter to get rid of the stock air box other then that you shouldnt need one.

I think in this case he is talking about a different adapter.
The MAS adapter is just a metal plate that bolts onto the 2G MAS and allows you to attach different filters to the MAS. The odd shape of the 2G MAS makes it necessary when trying to attach a typical round or oval open element style filter.

Thanks for clearing things up. I appreciate it guys. I'm thinking about putting a K&N filter on my injen piping. Where can I get this bracket adapter you guys are talking about? Will it come with the intake filter when I buy it or do I have to get it somewhere else? Thanks.

You can buy it from Dejon Tool, but it's easy to simply make one yourself.

This black plastic one comes with all the 3" filters that are sold on ebay for the 2G MAS.

You can also use this one for a bigger K&N filter with the stock 2G MAS.

FYI - The 2Gs have a MAS, GM has the MAF unit which has to be used with the MAFT.

MAS stands for mass airflow sensor. It is also sometimes called MAF, for mass air flow sensor. It is the assembly that measures the properties of the air entering the engine, consisting of three separate sensors.

The GM units are called MAFs. I guess you could call the 2G MAS a MAF, but it is a 2G MAS.
