Ok, first off I am not sure if this is the proper location for this thread. If it is not let me know and I will pm a mod and ask them to move it. Now on to my problem.

My fuel pump quit working today and I have not determined why. Here is what I have done to diagnose this problem.

1) Check with a multimeter to see if and how much voltage I was receiving to the pump.
The wires were dead.
2) Checked the wire from the relay and it had power.

Diagnoses: I now know that there is either a break a break or a short somewhere between the relay and the pump. No big deal, I just did a re-wire and solved that problem. Now I have another problem. My fuel gauge is no longer working and I am not sure why. I checked the signal wire to see if it had power and it was dead as well. Instead of trying to find the break in it I am going to use an after market gauge but I need to know the ohms of the factory unit. I cannot find this anywhere on this site or the vfaq. I do not have caps so I am not sure if it will be there or not. Does anybody happen to know.

Here's a screenshot of what the 1991 FSM has to say about the sending unit.

(see attached).

I don't know if you need a wiring diagram for the complete MPI circuit, but I have that as well, if you need it.

From what I remember, with the tank Empty, the resistance should read approx 120 ohms. Full, it should read about 2 ohms.

I'm not sure if this is the info you were looking for....Let me know if I need to be more specific, or if I misunderstood your post.

Cool :) Good luck. Let me know if you need any more info. I've taken apart the whole fuel system....I can pretty much tell you where everything goes. LOL. :thumb:

Please tell me it was not just for fun. After five minutes I gave up and called Autometer to see what they had.

Haha, I wish
No, when I got my car, the fuel system wiring (among other things) looked like it had been gnawed on by a beaver. I basically had to replace every component in the fuel system, minus the metal fuel lines under the car.
Everything had to be rewired, replaced, and/or repaired. And I do mean *everything*. :toobad:

That was a stressful week...................:boring:

How did you survive?LOL BTW I am still finding gifts from the squirell that made a home of my DSM in the 2 years it was down.:) so I can understand your frustration. Oh and whe I cranked it the first time with the exhaust hooked up, there was a huge pile of seeds blown outROFL .

Haha, damn, that's sad. :notgood:

My car was down for almost a year...I'm still finding acorns, leaves, and misc. small shiny things all over the engine bay, and virtually everywhere else in the car, from when the car was parked outside on the previous owner's driveway. Bah. No telling what small furry creatures were 'nesting' in my car during that time....

Fortunately, no seeds out the exhaust, though. :p Just a huge cloud of white smoke that smogged the neighborhood. Ha.

I prefer to see big clumps of hair flying out the exhaust. That way I know I got the critter. :)

LOL True........I doubt that would be good for your exhaust. LOL. ;) The neighborhood would smell like burnt fur for weeks......... :p

Hey Steve,

I did get the critter, well he got himself. I took the dash out to fix some wiring and I found his skeleton :barf: , atleast that explains the smell :( .
