Boring, what should i do?

My motor that i have now is shot, what i am wondering is, which bore should i do, 0.040 or a 0.060, the only problem is, that i don't know how bad my cylinder wall is scarred. and who makes piston sizes that would fit those bore sizes cause i'm eager to work on my car to get it to the 13s if not 12s.

I do not think you could even get a .060" overbore in these blocks.

Even if you could, why would you? Most people go with the least overbore that can safely get rid of any scarring on the walls. For the most part that would probably be .020" (aka .05mm) or .040" (aka .1mm) overbore. There are pistons which mfrs stock in these overbore sizes. .060" may have to be special ordered.

I do not believe that increasing overbore on these engines beyond what is minimally necessary gives any advantage (i.e. increased displacement) that is noticeable. Greater offsets than .040 may possibly even weaken of the walls, but I have no proof of this except my machinest who advised against it. Besides if you go with a larger overbore than is needed, then you are stuck should you ever score the walls again. At least with .020 you have a block which is still good for at least one more rebuild .

With turbo, simply increasing boost has essentially the same result as increasing displacement. If you are looking for greater torque, some people have tried the stroker method. I have read that some people have even used the 2.4 liter block from Hyundai Tiburons or other Hyundai models which get their blocks from Mitsu.
