ok so I have a 91 tsi, the 14b is about shot, I was set on a big 16g, but Im starting to wonder about 18g's.....are they any good? It seems like nobody runs them......just wondering your thoughts on these! I have almost all the supporting mods, such as afc, dp, 3" cat back, 255 fuel pump, etc...... It ran a 13.5 quarter with previuos owner, im hoping for a 13 or high 12's with a new turbo... i know i will need some 550cc inj. and such but...But just wondering your opinions on the 18g!!

I have an 18g and i love it...I was going to get a 16g but a buddy of mine practically gave me the 18g i dont think there is that much of a difference though between the 18 and the 16g if you were gonna go with a 18g i agree you might as well buy a 20g
 
I got my 18g used from a friend and so far while waiting for a fuel pump I'm running about 13-14psi and its feels the same or slightly faster than the 14b at 17psi. Best thing is it holds boost to redline whereas the 14b started to fall off at 5.5K. As far as lag goes, it builds boost low, like at 2K and I'm getting 13-14 at just over 3K rpm. Honestly its not laggy even compared to the 14b, but then again the turbo, ex mani and 02 are ported out as much as I could.

I read somewhere, can't remember where though, but the 18g's compressor wheel dimensions are right in between the big 16 and 20g, kinda closer to the 20g though.

Don't base everything on me, I'm running it without the fuel mods yet so I haven't seen its full potential, not even close really, but on my buddy's car he was pulling low 12's at 116mph, yet he has more mods than me.
 
thats interesting that you say that, i have very good things about the br20g and have raced a 2ggsx with one when i had the kick ass 14b car. it was pretty even til 3rd then he pulled like a mofo

the br20 uses a 05/06 combo whats your opinions on it vs a tdo6 20g

hahn even uses a damn 10cm turbine housing
 
If your buying brand new go for a 20g. The 18 and 20 are almost the same price I think, might as well go for the bigger one.
 
why upgrade the turbo if only going that small of a step? Might as well keep the 14b and run those times which are easily do-able with the 14b.
 
I would think about how much money you want to spend. If you don't want to get an external gate, then go with the 18g. You will have a little bit more top end with the 18g as compared to the 16. If you do get the external, definetly dump the exhaust. sounds bad ass when the wastegate opens up.
 
I run an 18g. Spools wicked quick spools the same as my friends big16g and faster than my friends 20g. It flows way more than a big 16 and not much less than the 20g. And it looks stock.

I still say stick with the 14b. port it out, and be happy. I sure am. I trap higher than my friend's ported Big16.. imo the 16g isn't worth the $400 for the extra 45 cfm flow.
 
thanks, but my 14b is almost shot, all the intake fins are bent, or even missing chunks...:( so Im going to have to get a new one for sure....
TurboSpoolinIns- u ever go out to rock falls wisconson for the races in the summer?...I went once but it rained all day and they were cancelled.. ah well it was only 500 miles each way haha
