I just put on my turboback and I wanted to complete it buy getting an O2 housing but can't decide on which one. I'm thinking of one of these

Is this as big as an EVO3 housing?

Evo3....Am I going to have fitment issues with this?

The first one you listed looks to be one of those SSautochrome/XSpower o2 housings. While it looks decent enough to run, most people have run into fitmet issues with the o2 housing not lining up correctly. Another thing to consider is the entry angle. Versus the evo III housing, it is much more sharp and will cause slightly more turbulence, but as always, is probably negligable.

The evo III (if that is a real one) o2 housing is a good piece for the price. But then again, a ported 2g o2 will cost 1/2 as much and flow just as well :thumb: OEM FTW.

I've run a tubular design from Punishment Racing for over a year now, and it has held up quite nicely. Its 2.5" Dia with the seperate tube for the wastegate. It fits a little close on the alternator on the 1G's so i put a heat shield on it for insurance. Its mild steel with a paint on it. The paint has fallen off and been reapplied since i installed it but has not leaked any exhaust at all. :talon:

They don't mention what gen that O2 housing is from, but even a ported 2g is supposed to me smaller then the evoIII. The evoIII exits on a slightly different angle then the stock housing and puts additional stress on your flex section, they also have further apart bolt spacing so if your downpipe isn't designed for it you will probably have to slot the holes abit. If you do go evoIII housing its best to get a downpipe thats designed for it, RRE sells one. As for the tubular one you have posted, thats SS autochrome & their quality/life length is very questionable. Do a search on that vendor & you can make up your own mind. There are some very nice SS O2 housings out there, such as the ones Victory Performance makes but you will be paying about double. I would rather mod once then have to do it again in a year or two so I would recommend one of the higher quality tubular housings if you have the cash :thumb: but for a cheep alternative, even a ported 2g housing is a nice upgrade on the 1g.

Don't cheap out on parts.....ever. Everyone on here always asks if this ebay item is worth it. If you have to ask, its probably not. Don't buy from someone who makes these one-off items, theyre never going to fit perfect, won't hold up like OEM and are a waste. This is just my opinion but save some money by finding someone with a ported 2g O2 and take it off there hands.

I have the EVO III ported by Buschur. It's a wide open design. My downpipe can just touch the flex against the transfer case depending on how I bolt it to the 02 housing as my downpipe has slotted holes. Mark

I think this is one of the nicest ones out there. I have a tubular one from RnR, and to some it up, it is pathetic. I will be swapping it out for one of the above linked ones. The shop here says they perform very well, plus they are cast so I know it's solid!

Well I'm gonna buy a used one from a member above it's a punishment racing tubular design. I do like the one linked above that is nice. What are the benefits of it being wide open like that? What was wrong with your tubular from RnR?

My RnR housing, ran the dump tube right in the path of the IC piping. It was impossible to run intercooler piping because the dump was right there about 5 inches from the turbos outlet. He said he'd never had a problem with them before. That made no sense, he must have never sold one before or something.

Anyhow, I will be getting that one I linked too. I like that they come with studs, so instead of trying to get a bolt and nut through there, i can just line the downpipe holes up with those studs and slide em up and throw the nuts on there.

About the benefits of it being wide open, I have no idea. If you're interested in more details, you'd be better off shooting them an email!

yeah this one isn't a dump so I shouldn't have any issues. let us know how that ones goes if you purchase it.

They say you either love the sound or hate it so not sure how much of that is true. Do you have any sound clips?

VERY good choice. I saw this thread the other day and have been trying to find PunishmentRacing's web site. They have moved or something since I last bought my O2 from them. It is a very solid peice. You'll be happy with it I'm sure.:thumb:

Hey thats a pretty sweet O2 housing. Do you know of anyone who runs one of these? I wonder what their cast of (ie how easily will they crack?) Do you think the wide open design will have any effect on the turbo, such as spool? I've heard by removing the divider in the turbine housing will decrease performance, or is the O2 housing far enough away to not have any effect? You would think this design would be great as far as flow goes.

Punishment Racing has deleted their Official web site and removed their listing on ebay.com aswell.

and external dump is a LOVE IT or LEAVE IT sound. if your at high boost don't worry, but if you at low boost it sounds like a ONE OF A KIND noise ALL THE TIME!!!!!

I know they have used it on cars before. They said they've put it on cars that were having boost creep issues, and once they put this housing on, it was eliminated. As far as getting into how removing the divider effects stuff, I have no idea. This is a hobby of mine, I've playing with DSM's for 5 years now, but when it comes to flow characteristics, cam designs, other high tech shit like that, I leave that to those who love to do that kind of research and engineering. I just like to wrench on the things, and get it to go fast!!

If you are curious about it, just write them. Both Josh and John are very smart, and I know they'd gladly share what they know with you!!

I did find this info in various threads on our local forum if it helps...

Once again, investment cast, stainless steel, rated up to 2200 degrees Farenheit. Will bolt on to factory downpipes, headshields bolt-on.

We have 2 out there running around. 1 is on a scm61 equipped vehicle with a 2.4. No creep. (besides internal wastegate pressure of 18psi). The other is on a scm61 powered 2.0 vehicle, again 18psi

They are created out of a "Investment Casting" process. They start as wax molds, and are cast out of Stainless Steel. All factory head shields and components bolt up.

Thanks for the info :thumb: sounds like they would be worth checking out, added to favourites ;)

I'm still stuck on the stock o2, but two of my friends have run the Punishment Racing on a 2g. Seems like it will work for me... just need to find one.

I ran a punishment racing o2 housing on my 2g for about a year now and it has held up perfect except for the paint stripping(but who cares). It has an external dump and it is LOUD. I love it.
