I don’t really post here that much, but i guess that’s beside the point. I have been reading a lot about how the eBay intake manifold was junk, and also about how the maft is not good by itself for higher hp levels. I have recently finished helping my friend put together his car. It’s a 90 model gsx with a stock jdm motor with pretty bad compression. He bought the car with a rod slung through the block, and we just installed the jdm motor with the same parts. It already had the eBay intake manifold on it, so I talked him into leaving it on there. I did however do some porting on the intake. The intake ports are sort of rounded, not matching very well to the square tubes of the intake. All I did was port the manifold side of the flange for a little better flow. It probably didn’t help all that much, but it seemed better than letting it hit a wall in every corner. I took a cone shaped bit and just ported the one side. So the flange is actually sqaurish on one side and roundish on the other side. The car has a stock long block (jdm) minus cams. It has a set of hks 272's for cams. Its using a stock 90 model tb also. Its a ported 2g manifold with a fp red as a turbo. It has a custom 3in turbo back with a 40mm hks gate. It has a rather small top to bottom flow cooler with 2.5 inch pipes. The car has 850cc injectors, and the only fuel control it has is the maft. This is not a blow through setup. The mas is on the 3inch intake pipe. The car doesn’t even have a fpr and is using a rewired supra pump. I tuned it with only a logger. The car has run a best of 11.33 @ 128.71 and 7.46 @ 101.31. Keep in mind the guy has only had the car less than a month, so he’s not really up to par driving it yet. I think once he gets the launch right, and the boost is all the way up an 11.0/10.90 is possible. The above runs were made at 27lbs, and the best 60 he’s had so far is a 1.77. Judging by the mph i would think this car is making at least 450 if not a little more. I’m not saying by any means go out and buy the eBay manifold, just wanted to clear up a little about it. Its heavy, ugly, and cheap, but it real life it works fine. The maft also seems to be working fine. I also think that it can be used in high hp applications by itself if you don’t have the money for anything else. The guy that owns this car was going to buy lots of other stuff for it at first, but running as good as it did we didn’t think there was any need to yet. Any questions i will gladly try to answer. Just let me know if you have any.

p.s. also sorry if this is in the wrong section. I know you mods have been cracking down lately.

ultimately what is the goal for this car? also I cant see keeping the car together long, running that much boost on that setup. Only say that because I can hardly keep mine together with just 15psi on a ported t-28. Did you say your still running the stock tranny?

The goal is to go as fast as it can on the stock motor. I would like to see 10.90s out of it. I would say the best it will get though is around 11.0s. With a good 60, 10.90s wouldn't be a problem I dont think. I own a small shop in Chattanooga TN and im always putting dsm's around that boost level. I've ran up to 31.6 on my own car with a red and stock motor. These 6bolts are good for 450 easy. I have a 7 bolt im gonna finish up today and im gonna shoot for around 460whp with it. Its also a stock 7bolt with just arp head studs. Its already made 374/344 on stock cams, intake, and tb. It was also only at 26lbs. Now if your talking about keeping the trannys together thats another thing. The awd i spoke of in this post has a Scott Evans Mutt VI. (LOL) Most all the high hp dsm's i work on have built trannys. The 7bolt i spoke of has a Shep Trans. I can't imagine why you would have problems on a t-28 at 15lbs with anything. Unless your talking about normal dsm stuff.

This intake is better then the stock intake, but that is a given. Will it perform as well or better than the Magnus, AMS, or JM fab pieces no one knows yet.

My main qualm with it is that it cost 200.00 or more and it could be made at home for 75.00 if you have a welder. It doesn't look like it has any R&D in it like the other mentioned. So, this is my opinion nothing more, you don't get the gauranteed performance of the others, but you pay 2x what it would cost you to build the same exact thing.

Do i think it will perform as good as a magnus, bj's, or jm? No, i dont. Do i think it will perform close? Yes, i actually think at wot and high rpms it will. Like i said, im not saying go out and buy one, just saying its not as bad as some of you guys say it is. I personally have a bj's intake on my car. I would get the jmf manifold before any of them now. The 7bolt i was speaking of has a jmf manifold and its a really nice manifold. I dont have any numbers on it yet, but i should this weekend. Also, i dont think it cost magnus 650 to make there mani either. I mean if bulldog sold the manifolds for 75 they wouldnt make a dime. Im not even comparing the eBay mani to a magnus really. The ebay manifold is 3 times as cheap, so you couldnt actually expect it to be just as good or as nice. I am just saying for those that cant afford a 500 dollar intake manifold, the bulldog is ok. I wouldnt reccomend it without cams, but if you are stuck on the stock mani and cams with no money its not a terrible option. Thats all i was saying.

I completly agree with you and wans't trying to say it was a bad mani as I have no experiance with it. But I also don't see the need to spend 200 with some guy when I could make the exact same thing for a lot less at home and have the same results. Some way not have the parts or tools to make so this won't apply to them.

As just general info, I see a lot of people who say that there is no way that X part has X amount of money into it. The problem with that type of statement is that we don;t know how much they spent on R&D. THey may have made 50 different intake to find the right design. They also had to dyno and track test all of those and so on. The price will general be higher for profit but also to recoupe those cost.
