im just a poor college student wanting to run a little quicker set up, theres a punk running around in a 1g gst that has me by a hair, and its honestly starting to really annoy me, so im going to work on a heavier hitting setup, basically im wanting to start this off with a intake, but dont really want to spend 200 bones for one, so if anyone has any validation of the quality of the ebay intakes, or anything similar, i would love to hear what you have to say!!!
btw, are the mbc's you see on ebay worth it or should i just go with something like the j p's mbc, thanks

The eBay one will work out just fine for you. I have installed 2 so far and they fit the same as the Injen ones.

As far as the boost controller goes, they really aren't complicated. You could actually make your own. The only reason I wouldn't get some run of the mill MBC is because if the ball and spring fails, you will have out of control boost. I run a TurboXS HP boost controller with a check valve so this doesn't happen.

Then again, there are several people around here that have home-made/eBay ones that have worked just fine. I just didn't want to take the risk.

a pipe is a pipe as far as intakes go. BUT an intake on a turbo dsm isn't going to give you much except make the turbo louder. since you have a 2nd gen you should set the boost at about 16psi. any higher then this on a t25 and your just pushing hot air.

is this going on a different car then in your profile? your profile says you already have an intake, exhaust, mbc, and bov?

My friend has an ebay intake installed on his GSX, and it works great. It sounds great, and is a pretty decent quality product.

As for the mbc, I would go with a joe p or hallman mbc; instead an ebay one or homemade one, just to make sure you have a proper working mbc.

Hopes this helps, Stay boostin

Go with an eBay one. They are a pretty inexpensive upgrade compared to the name brand ones. If you are worried about the flow, just grab a K&N filter and put it in place of the intake's one.

I always thought you wanted to go with an intake and exhaust besides a MBC for your first upgrades on a factory turbo'ed car? Turbos need to breath and like big exhaust flow to move the gases quickly. IMO getting an intake would be one of the first things I would do to open up the flow a bit. If you are really budget minded, even just putting on a K&N filter on the end of the stock piping should do the trick pretty good.

I had an ebay intake on mine and it worked great with no probs.
My stock 2g bov was recirculated and I heard it too.LOL.
The ebay intake was a nice upgrade from the airbox.

Anyway I finally got some money and ordered an K&N FIPK off ebay for my car.
I'm happy. :)

Enjoy the intake man and goodluck against the 1g.

my expierience with the ebay mbc's is they leak a lot of air at idle. and vac conditions like cruising.
they just don't machine the insides well enough for the steel ball to make a seal. air leaks by at idle and cruise. it can effect your mileage.
the one i bought, leaked enough to prevent my ecu from going into decel mose when i downshifted to engine brake
(decel is when the ecu cuts all fuel to the injectors to prevent fouling and be more effiecient) if you had a narrowband a/f gauge you would see what i'm talking about. your usualy pdownshift would send the trim all the way lean, until you open the throttle again. w/ that cheap mbc, it would never go lean it would stay to the right of stoich.

ebay intakes are fine.
you will definatly enjoy haviing one on there cause you will bea ble to hear your bov and the turbo spooling.
but don't expect any large gains.
but worth 40 bucks? absolutely

I would go with the eBay one, BUT by a QUALITY FILTER. I just went through training and saw graphs that showed the filter effeciency over time comparing S+B filters, KN, AEM, and eBay. The first three performed just about the same after repeated use and washing, however the eBay one started deteriorating rapidly and had to get replaced. Besides, a quality filter is only about $30.

my bad, i havent edited my profile, some old lady totaled my spyder, so what did i do, i bought another ;) but before i did i sold all my parts i could scrap....oops

i appreciate all your inputs, so ill probably get the ebay intake and get the joe p mbc, they're not relatively expensive, so ill have a total investment of 80 bones in that setup, and my exhaust(because i live in oklahoma where inspections dont exist:thumb: )literally dumps directly below my shift knob, so a total of 100 dollars, not bad

next thing up for discussion, fmic's
BEFORE you guys start giving me the "stop being lazy and search" replys, i would like to ask this because i have spent probably 2 hours searching for any thread that talks about this...i want an intercooler that does its job well, but i realize my hp goals are going to be around 300-320, probably not much more than that(ill be running a fp 28) my question would be what size intercooler should i run, i dont want to go overkill and put an intercooler on it that would cool a freightliner, i just want something thats sized to my application, any dimension recomendations? btw, i would like to retain everything, i dont want to remove ac or anything

ebay ones are fine.As far as the MBC,you REALLY should have a boost gauge before you pop a boost gauge before or at ths same time as a MBC.You don't wanna turn up the boost and not know how much your boostin,do ya?factory gauge is not accurate.Although after intake i would put a exhaust before turning up the boost, that's my .02.As far as intercooler, you can still get by with a sidemount for now, still got a ways to go before you'll need a FMIC,again my .02,that makes .04.peace out.

i already have a autometer boost gauge, and an exhaust with that dumps after the downpipe:thumb: i live in oklahoma so we dont have inspections, so i dont worry about exhaust! im decently familiar as to what to do when, i just am not sure on the quality of budget products, but thanks for the input, im just getting airflow taken care of so i can fmic and fp28 it soon

I have one of the ebay intakes, workes fine. The only thing is the adapter for a cone filter didn't match up with the MAS so there were small gaps around it letting in unfiltered air. I just took some RTV sealant and sealed up the gaps, kinda making my own gasket and works mint.

Go with an ebay intake, however dont go with a cheap ebay boost controller. I did and it rusted really quickly. Also it leaks a lot of air through the little hole, a lot more than a boost controller should. I think it is one of the reasons I have a weird acceleration becuase it feels like I have a bad boost leak or vacuum problem.

i've got an ebay intake and no problems as of yet, the only thing im doing next is buying an K&N filter with the 4.5 inch inlet--the ebay intakes give you the cheap plastic adapter--it's fine and works, but I'm willing to shell out for the K&N and hopefully increase more airflow--Other than that, i would really recomend the ebay intake vs $200.00 intakes--

Y are the 2g intakes so much more expensive then the 1g intakes? Are there any reasonable priced 1g intakes for cheap?

I had the ebay intake on my first dsm(2g fwd) and it worked good. As far as MBC, I have a turboXS on ebay right now for cheap. Check it out. I would stay away from those cheap ebay mbc's, this is a good instance of "you get what you pay for". Good luck with you 1g buddy.

man just do this http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201469&highlight=bcs+mod, and drive the car. if that guy is beating you by just a little you should get em. some one should have told you about this. I dont like to say "go search" but it is good to practice searching, it can be difficult. But there is a list of free mods out there that can really binefit you. check it out
