Edmonton,
k well im getting my exhaust done soon. Its for a 98 GSX, ignore profile, this is my new car. anyways i have a 3" downpipe and will be getting the exhaust built from there, i also have a magnaflow muffler. All i need to know is, what should i get... a glasspack, or a resonator. i want to know the pro's and con's for both. I want the car as quiet as possible, but i also dont want to hurt performance. please give me your input. thanks.

A glasspack muffler is generally a straight-through design, whereas a resonator involves reflecting sound waves off each other by going through different chambers. So obviously, a resonator isn't "straight-through." I can't tell you exactly what the performance difference is between the two, but usually you want your exhaust to be as unobstructed as possible. It's probably safe to infer a glasspack will give you better performance.

Worry not about adding a resonator, you may lose 1/4 to 1/2 a hp if you add one, not real big difference.

And you can always unbolt your downpipe and run just an o2 housing at the track for your maximum performance. For street though, I would say add as many resonators as you can fit on there.

Try this setup, downpipe, small flex, cat, resonator, resonator, over the rear axle, resonator, muffler

that seems like an awful lot of resonators...
You should be fine with running just 1 resonator, and NO glass packs after the cat.
Glass packs usually end up producing a raspy top end sound, but with the turbo exhaust are extremely quiet compared to NA and im not sure what it would sound like.
Leaving the resonator in wont have any effects on performance, as it is like a mini-muffler inside the piping.

i think ill just run the down pipe, a little bit of 3 inch pipe, a 3 inch 18 inch long resonator - then some more pipe, then finish with the magnaflow muffler

I have a 3"downpipe back exhaust custom by me with a downpipe resonator and magnaflow muffler wtih the rre twin tips. It is still kinda loud so I too might be adding a 18" resonator to put in place of where the cat is supposed to go. Just my .02cents. My exhaust to me, is still loud but its only cause of the 272's that you can tell its aftermarket. Everyone tells me it super quite for a modified car. It looks super sleeper and isnt as loud as my strait through system with just a muffler, or as loud as just a downpipe and nothing else:rocks: :dsm:
