Every DSM i've driven doesn't feel like it pulls. Even at full boost and foot on the floor a gsx doesn't "pull" like a 6g72 or any higher displacement, torquier engine. that kind of blows, especially on the highway or passing in high gear

do these things always have to be wound up (for lack of better terms) to go anywhere fast? or is it just me?

Um, what? I hope your point of reference isn't your 2001 GT. Anywhere above 2k rpms my GS-T pulls like crazy. I test drove both the 4 cylinder and V6 3rd gen eclipses like yours and neither one pulled anywhere near as hard as my GS-T. Now if you are comparing it to a modified muscle car, i can see where you are coming from.

That's odd. Stock for the stock, the 4G63T has MORE torque than your 3G. 1996-1999 were rated 210HP/214TQ. The 2002 GT is rated at 210HP/205TQ. I've ridden in the 3G and was very disappointed with the power. Felt like it couldn't get out of it's own way. Maybe you thought you were in a GSX and it was really a GS?

Ummm...no one would. They are a marketing ploy aimed at women and ricers. Oh, oh, dont forget the "rave crowd". Seriously 3g guy, I hope you were expecting flames, 'cause they will be coming. If you want to see torque, pull up next to me on the highway.

why do you think i'm trying to trade it in?
don't forget they ALSO have problems that mitsu won't own up to like the DSMs also

2g has crankwalk while 3g has the throw out bearing chatter, noise and vibrations. oh yeah, and dont forget the condensation in the headlights and hard shifting problems they call normal, too.

i agree landoawd, ive played with a few 2000 and up gt's and they suck to put it bluntly, its just another galant with new sheetmetal, now if it were the japanese tt v6 galant motor, id take it.

I wish people would stop blowing everything out of proportion with this crankwalk crap. Crankwalk is not as widespread as it is made out to be. Maintain the car, keep the clutch adjusted and you will be fine as long as you get a car that doesn't have it to start. Yes, some cars get it. However, most do not. When looking to buy a 2G, check for it. If it looks close to or out of spec, pass. Otherwise, you'll be fine AS LONG AS YOU DO MAINTENANCE ON IT.

i can understand at low revs, but high also??

Define what you mean by pull. Do you mean it doesn't pull like a 3G? God, I really hope not. I never had a problem with my car or any complaints about the power. Always pulled, moreso when modded of course.

but, to each there own. Maybe you were expecting more than you got. A lot of people think out of the box the 2G is a monster. It is a quicker than average car, but monster status doesn't happen until it is modded.

A heavily modified GS-T or GSX will supply you with plenty of V8 type torque #'s IMHO. My car has plenty of torque, and that's with just a Big28. I'm pretty sure my torque numbers would be well over the 300 ft.lb mark at the crank!

You guys...

Turbo 4 bangers don't feel torquey even though the numbers tell otherwise.

We might hit 300ft lbs of torque at 4250, where as the V6 guys might be at 3000, that's a huge difference in seat of the pants.

Also our power doesnt come on until later, making it pull harder, pull is HP, and grunt is torque.

Mitsubishi really screwed up with the 3g. 7.7 sec 0-60 blah

No turbo = No interest.

Anyone know about the 270+ hp turbocharged lancer that might come to the US? When? $?

It's not THAT bad. Try mid 6's on a g-tech with little mods

The 2003 GTS does 6.7 stock I believe and there was a consensus on another forum (name withheld) that car and driver people can't drive worth a #@%#@%#@%#@%

Lancer evo 8 quoted next spring, high $20k, and expect a huge markup on the lot

i bet if diesel boy has a wut his name implies, he knows wut diesel does in the way of torque :) . we have a dodge deisel ( a 99) with a edge comp and heavy duty pumps with injetors on the way, and can u say torque????? trucks set up the same as urs are getting 700 foot pouds of torque. so wut i'm kinda sayin is if u want torque get a DIESEL!!!!!!! if u want speed get a dsm :)

I never bothered to think of it that way. I thought it was a reference to one of my favorite punk bands... Deisel Boy!!!

that would be HP on the highway there smart guy....torque comes into play off the line HP is what moves you on the freeway at higher engine speeds (hence V8's crushing imports off the line then getting spanked on the high end)
