i have a question about if i made the wrong choice or not. I have a 1g and i thought i UPGRADED to the 2g rods but in another forum i was told that the 1g are stronger.
am i wrong or are the 2g forged and better? or am i retarted and paid for a downgrade?

Doh! If this was a shop that gave you that advice and built the motor for you...I would have someone's a$$ on a platter, as well as a refund.

Is your motor already assembled?

unfortunately yes

it installed and running how big of a diff is there?

enough to take the motor back apart?

Are you sure your not mistaken about the rods and pistons? Its really not a huge difference in power capability but WTF. The only reason I can think is that if someone was playing you and had the rods laying around because they already used the pistons for someone else. The rods had to be machined to get them to fit and it doesnt make any sense why 2g rods would be used in a 6 bolt motor but hey....
Its really nothing to be scaird about though, Im sure itll hold plenty of power for your needs

wow..seems like someone tried to work you.. Like stated above. I would seriously be kicking someones ass for that one. I thought almost everyone knew that 1g 90-91 rods and 2g pistons. Not the other way around. Its not really a big power diff like said above..stock internals should hold between 400-450.

well you are kinds right. they were just laying arround but they were brand new and shop pinged( however that is spelled) but i did upgrade to the oversized 2g pistons. what kinda horse power can i still achieve on the 2g rods without them shattering or breaking?

I did keep the 1g cams so i am not a complete dumbf@#$ just partially

Not actually sure how you did that as the rod journal size on the 1g is substantially wider than the 2g (well, 6-bolt vs. 7-bolt). Hence, the narrowing of the small end of the rod to fit 2g pistons on 6-bolt rods.

My guess is that the machine shop did nothing but charged you for parts and labor that they never performed.

2g pistons are not necessarily stronger than 1g pistons. The benefit is their higher compression ratio which gives you more torque off boost and better spool up.

IMO, 2g pistons in a 6-bolt engine are a waste of money. Sure, it's only $40 a piston, but then you add rings for $100 and another $100-$150 for the labor of narrowing the 1g rods to fit the pistons, and you're just about the cost of a set of Wisecos, which are a much better piston than the 2g units.

sure if you dont mind losing the driveability of the car due to forged pistons. if you dont mind letting your car warm up forever and a day and not worried about your pistons wearing from slap.. :)
