exhaust manifold

When i got my talon, there was always a cackling noise that was usually assosciated w/ a cracked exhaust manifold, coming from the engine compartment. So the other day i took off the shield or cover or whatever its called, and i see the the farthest left (opposite the cam gears) cylinder has no bolts around it. The studs are there but they are short and there are no nuts. they are the 3 surrounding the cylinder. If i put my hand near the leak, i can feel the air rushing againct my hand.

WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THE BROKEN STUDS OUT?????!!!!!!!

Easy out bits. They are basically a backwards drill bit. Make sure you get the size that is smaller than the outside diameter of the stud. You can use a cordless drill, just put it in reverse and the bit drills into the center of the stud but is going backwards. When the bit gets a good grip the stud will begin to back out and then you can replace it.

isnt there a risk of screwing up the block or the threads in the block by doing that tho?

Be careful and use the proper sized bit. The only risk you run of hurting the head is if the exhaust manifold bolts are broke off in there because the previous owner cross threaded them because of improper installation. In this case you can drill out the head and use a heli-coil.

And spray some PB Blaster on there and let it soak a while first. That'll help break them loose easier.
