I'm trying to mod my car and thus far performance wise I only have the injen intake. I'm looking for the best next step. I was thinking either I want to buy the UIC pipes and Greddy type-s BOV, most likely getting the ones from extrememotorsports, unless anyone else knows of a better way, or getting the Apexi N1 cat-back system. Eventually I'll have both, but in my situation I'd like to hear which one you all would suggest since you are the experts. Another question I have is how much horsepower does the injen intake and apexi exhaust normally give? Thanks for the help, cya all later.

I would get a boost gauge next, but after i replace the BOV and upper IC pipes I'm goina get the Apexi AVC-R Boost Control, so that already have a gauge in it... but I guess the smart move would be gettin the BOV and UIC pipes over the cat-back, thanks.

You really should get some kind of accurate boost measurement (whether it be a standalone gauge or whatever's built into the AVC-R) before you start putting stuff on your car that can increase boost levels (like the BOV).

Hold on a second, the BOV increases boost? I thought it just let off the boost, doesn't the boost control increase or decrease the boost. I'm pretty sure all BOV's do is hold the boost and not increase it, but I may be wrong. And... if a BOV does increase boost then how do you adjust how much boost it's increasing it by?

slow down bro, in your excitment. you have ignored the best advice givn in the thread http://www.dsmtuners.com/tuning-guide/ if you go t ecxtreme's web site they have a verty descriptive tuning guide also.http://www.extrememotorsports.com/g2stage/stageall.htm

Yeah, actually I've looked at both those sites and they are really good. But... If you'll notice each site has a different order of modding. DSMTuners says get the BOV then Boost control, while Extreme says get the catback before anything and doesn't even mention the BOV in the first two stages. That is why I asked whether I should go with the catback or the UIC and BOV combo. Basically it looks like the best move would be the UIC and BOV combo and then I'll get the Apexi AVC-R, which has a built in Boost Gauge, meaning I don't need to buy a seperate gauge, cause that's another $50. Now... correct me if I'm wrong, but I won't have any change in Boost before I get the Boost Control, is that right?

Whenever a new DSMer pops up in my area, my ablsoulte first modification suggestion is a boost gauge. You can pick up a VDO for like $25 and I think single pods are like $7-8. I have an AVCR too and I never go by it, only my Autometer boost gauge.

Although I followed Extreme's path...back in 98, I would go with the DSMtuner path now. The stock BOV is garbage, it leaks. Yes you will notice a difference in the cars powerband with just an aftermarket BOV and UIC pipe, because the aftermaket BOV is maintaining boost and not leaking back into the recirculation tube.

That's what I was referring to. The stock BOV almost acts like a built in boost controller set to 12 PSI. With an aftermarket BOV, it will hold boost to whatever your boost control is set at, so if there should happen to be something wrong with the boost control mechanism that's on your car now (probably the stock BCS) and you put an aftermarket BOV on, who knows how high your boost will jump to, since there's no decent gauge to monitor it. Yeah, the chance is slim that the BCS isn't working right, but I'd rather be safe than engine-rebuilding...

Alright, that makes a little more sense, so I guess I'll get the boost gauge and the UIC pipes + Greddy Type-S. Another thing, if by chance my stock boost control is messed up, and I see that with my boost gauge, how would I even be able to change that?

What are you seeing on your boost gauge that is leading you to think that something is wrong with the stock boost controller?
