Exhaust manifold removal.

Hey, I am trying to take off my 2g manifold to toss in some new gaskets.

All of the nuts/bolts are off, but I can pull it off. The exhaust manifold to head are studs, and there is that 1 stud on the turbo to manifold, so how the hell do you lift it off? If I really pull on it I can almost get the manifold out of the studs coming from the head, and then I would have to lift the manifold out of the stud coming from the turbo, but I don't want to break anything, their has to be an easier way, any hints/thoughts?

you can remove the stud on the turbo, and replace it with a bolt. a lot easier to r&r the exhaust manifold

How do you remove that stud?

a drill and an extractor kit might work

drill and extractor???just take off the turbo,stick vise grips on the stud,and pull it out.then replace it with a bolt when you re-install it.

i was very lucky when i did mine it just unscrewed very easily. i could imagine this being a big pita. i did the double nut method. this is done by tightening two nuts into each other until you are able to put a socket on the top nut and extract the stud.if this doesn't make sense pm me. you will have to pull the turbo off the first time because it is impossible to pull the manifold over that 1 stud.

why must you all make it so difficult he can leave the turbo in and take the stud out, take one of the nuts for the stud use a wire feed weld it onto the stud and use a ratchet to take it out... walla

You can remove the exhaust manifold without removing that stud first. I just got done doing it on my 1g. I used a small pry bar batween the turbo and manifold prying them apart as I pulled the manifold of the head studs.
