Hey people wuts going on...Im tired of my exhaust sounding the way it does...many performance orientated people where i live have mean sounding exhausts and for some strange reason mine dosent sound aggressive...my current setup is a 2.5 punishment racing 02 dump, 2.5 burshur downpipe to 3" after the flex section with no cats on a ebay muffler....I ran open downpipe a few months back and i loved the sound of the spooling and air noises that it made...so i was thinking maybe removing the muffler and putting just a resonator to make it sound more aggressive and toned...what do u guys think about this? Will it be as loud as open downpipe? Is it worth it...lemme know your thoughts.

strait pipe to resonators with tips after the resonator equals srt-4. They have no muffler just a resonator and if I'm not mistaken for a stock car off the lot they sound throaty. But nothing will sound as throaty and lovely and make me cum like the sound of my exhaust when I cut it off right after the first bend after the o2 housing. Talk about some looks. And what about the spooling and sh1t??? WHOa...... :thumb:

dude i agree...the day i drove open downpipe i went nuts....the backfires i got when shifting thru the gears sounded unlike anything i heard before...and the spool noise sounded like a jet taking off......my friends SRT-4 with downpipe and full exhaust sounds sick 2....u can hear his stock turbo whistling at idle...

very true about all you stated above. but back to topic yea I would do a resonator to twin tips from rre. only 40 bucks and would sound really nice. :thumb: And look stock :thumb: So competition would be like WTF its just an eclipse......

I'm running open DP right now, it's only about a foot and a half long and I LOVE the way it sounds haha, unfortuantly my turbo seals are gone, so I tend to smoke myself out at idle when it oozes from the sides of the hood :coy:

Do u guys think with that with my 3" exhaust to a resonator setup will give me the sound and performance im looking for? Or should i stay with wut i got. :toobad:

You probably just need a different muffler. The one that was on my Talon when I bought it is stainless steel 3" in and 3" out. It has a loud aggressive sound to it (I wouldn't want it any louder) and it looks really nice as well. The resonators that some people have are definitely a little louder, but they also draw a lot of attention.

Just leave your exhaust the way it is but add an electric cutout right before the cat. When the cutout is open it'll sound like open downpipe and closed it'll sound the same as now. It's nice because cops won't bother you since you can just close it when you see them and you won't draw too much attention either when you don't want to.

guys today i went to the exhaust shop and they took the muffler off and added a 3" pipe to take its place...i never been so happy....the spool noise is effin great and the power gain is very noticeable......i thought it would be a little louder ...but its significantly lower toned then open downpipe....i highly highly highly highly recommend this setup....il try to get pics asap. :thumb:

Hey man when I first got my exhaust done at the shop they mistakenly ordered the wrong muffler so I had to come back a couple of days later to get my muffler put on and all I had was a welded pipe as a muffler and it sounded great I wish I could have had it on there now with the 3" downpipe as well but I like my muffler, it makes a unique sound and of all the dsm meets ive been to in socal I havent heard another sound like mine so im leaving it on there just adding some twin tips from rre reall soon :thumb:

I drove with an open DP for about 10 minutes to the muffler shop so my 3" cat could be fabbed up to meet my N-1. It was the most unholy racket I have ever heard. Sounded like some old tractor or somebody's '72 pickup with a rusted out exhaust. I couldn't stand it.

I don't know what just a resonator would sound like, but I know what it is like with a test pipe, muffler and resonator. I would do at least one to cut out all the uneven, harsh harmonics, and leave a smoother tone.

my setup sounds sexy... ported o2 to 2.5 DP and 3" all the way out into a 3" megan racing turbo muffler........ really nice sound....

All this talk about open DP makes me wanna do it.......

anyways..

peace

LOL ya my setup sounds sexy too, o2 dump housing followed by about 6 inches of pipe....that is all

Just like most of you I have been thinking of re-doing my exhaust setup. Right now I have a 3" Downpipe, No cat, No Resonator's, and a 3" Cat-Back to a MagnaFlow Race Series Muffler.

The tone is deep and nice. Sounds like a diesel. But the muffler is just....to rice for me. It is all shiny and sticks out way to much.

I have thought about cutting the muffler off. And replacing it with a 3" Long Slant Cut Tip. So it looks very stock. But won't sound stock :sneaky:

you do know open o2 sounds 10x better then open downpipe right? remove the downpipe fully and run with your o2 open and youll orgasm from the sound.. under boost it sounds like a jet taking off.. like your in a wind tunnel. and youll be picking up around 10-15whp to.

Thats if you dont pick up a few cops attention first.

shouldnt have a problem as long as you keep the other half of the catback still there sneakily so it looks like you still have a exhaust on LOL

Yea i would go with no reonator or muffler, just straight pipe, that sounds the best.

I dont think its worth it because eventually, it WILL be emberassing! You will get tired of it quickly, well, at least I did. After I put my exhaust on my car, I LOVED driving it that much more. You say your exhaust isnt loud enough? An external dump is pretty loud!! I have a muffler, resonator, and a cat, my exhaust is still kinda loud.

If you just drop the mid section of the downpipe where it connects to your catback setup, or if you have a testpipe w/e.. its gonna sound HORRIBLE, worse then a Honda with a 10" diameter tip. If you drop the entire downpipe/cat so you have NOTHING after your o2 housing it will sound amazing.. and it will not get annoying, now when i just had my downpipe itself dropped from the mid section of the car where it meets my catback setup exhaust it sounded disgusting.. i couldn't wait to get the exhaust hooked back up.. but eventually that loud turbo spool noise will probably make you go nuts.. ROFL

Could just be me, but I seem to remember a while back hearing that if you dump straight off the O2 Housing it melts your radiator fans, and is genearly not a good thing to do, could be wrong, but just thought that was the case...

OK, everyone is saying exhausts sound great and what not, but How about POSTING SOUND clips? That would gr8ly help. I have 3" turbo back, catco highflow cat, and a magnaflow muffler. At idle its a lil burbles a lil, when cruising its quiet, and when smashing on the gas, it gets loud. I too would post a sound clip, the bad thing is that my car is down and out for about 1-2wks.
