I ran into a problem. My car idles at around 100 or lower RPM's if i stop at a stop light or coast in neutral. This problem came about after I installed my exhaust (and new O2 sensor since I couldn't get it off the old exhaust). the O2 sensor is universal. Any ideas? thanks.

Well, Im assuming this is the sensor that actually plugs into the o2 housing rather than the after cat sensor. As for it affecting idle, it could. You should get yourself another o2 sensor.

If the sensor doesn't work correctly your ecu will basically have no clue as to what the air/fuel is in your car.

If you have a datalogger you should look at your 02 voltage, and see what you have. If not the owners manual shows how to do it by unplugging it and using jumper wire (be careful not to cross wires and fry something if you do it that way.) Anyways at idle your 02 voltage will probably bounce around from .2 to .7 when you rev the engine it should range from .6 to 1.0. I have installed a brand new sensor before that was bad, had real low readings like .02 and .08 at idle. This caused a tempermental idle problem.

The secondary o2 is only there for the purpose of monitoring the exhuat at the cat......emissions only. The only o2 that affects idle is the main at the o2 housing ;)

Did you hook up all of your exhaust grounding straps? A bad ground could cause your O2 sensor to act flakey.

I know, thats why I assumed it was the first sensor. I knew a kid that asked me a similar question and when i assumed the same thing there i found out he didn't have the first o2 sensor, he only had the second.

Needless to say i told him replace the o2 sensor thinking he would know i meant the upstream one, and he replaced the downstream one and wondered why the problem persisted. Some people aren't the brightest when it comes to cars
