How can you tell when your MAS is going out?

I had a problem with my 2G maf in a 1G at one point>> turned out to be a bad wiring(factory wires into the plug/harness)...

The side effects were a check engine light was triggered..idle bumped up....car ran horribly..stumbled/popped.... could barely drive it...
It was sporadic...came on then once the CE light went off > the car ran great again!

Luckily that problem is long gone!
