How loud is loud?

California, USA,
Based on the Forum Feedback, I'm considering the Thermal R&D 3-inch Catback ... but I'm a bit concerned about the loudness. I don't want to pi**-off the neighbors. Is it conspicuously loud? Are there attachable/detachable silencers for the Thermal R&D?

Any recommendations for a 2.5"-inch catback?

hey man,

i have a 3 in turbo back. not the same brand but still applies i think. i have no cat either. mine isnt that loud at all, at an idle at least. when you get the boost cranking though it sounds like a freakin jet engine. personally i like it. i dont think it will be too loud unless you like to go wot down your road. that might piss them off.

i think different people will have a different opinion of loud? I know the N1 comes with a silencer that will make it just as quiet as stock if its to loud for ya, maybe the TR&D does as well?

the TR&D is very quiet. at idle it sounds like a rx7 with exhaust hope that helps.

I have the Thermal R&D exhaust and I think it sounds great...it isn't very loud unless you downshift and are around 3000 RPM. That is the only time it gets loud but it still sounds great. It is very easy to keep the exhaust quiet also just by knowing when to shift and where to keep your RPM's. It gives a nice low tone not the bumble bee sound like Honda's have.

May I ask you what you have behind the Thermal as far as the specs on your downpipe and cat? I want to ensure I purchase compatible parts/diameters and minimize cutting/welding.

If you don't want loud don't get an ATR. My ATR is the straighest loudest exhaust I've heard and I oonly have a 2.5inch dp and test preceeding it when I get my 3inch O2 elimitor DP on I'm scared how loud it will be.

Later,

I still have the stock downpipe and catalytic converter. The thermal exhaust will bolt right up to the stock cat. It flanges down from 3" to the stock 2" size right at the cat.

Here's something to keep in mind - Thermal guarantees that their systems stay under the legal decibal limit for California when used with a factory downpipe and cat. That says alot. Even though it will be louder once you put on a larger downpipe and cat, it should still be among the most quiet cat-backs available - and most effective. Jeez, you would think I work for Thermal or something. They should pay me!

What kind of options do you have to tune out your car but leave it fairly quiet. I've seen BOV's with horns to make them louder. Am I the only one that thinks that is reatarded? I want to be able to fly but not be heard coming. What good is it to be able to go fast if the cops know where you are by ur sound? Okay I'm gonna shut up now. Any info is appreciated.
