:shhh: :dsm: :thumb: Here's the deal. I bought the extra 36,000 mile/3 year warranty when I bought my 98 gst. I hoped I could be happy with the stock power until after that but I'm not. I love tuning & tinkering with cars so here's my problem. What all can I upgrade for more power w/o :dsm: mechanics noticing when doing repairs? I am allowed to change the spark plugs/wires and I plan on getting a air intake b/c I could just switch it back if needed very easily. Can you guys think of anything else?

Dont want to urt your feelings but warranties are a wsate of cash IMO. I know there are some guys that have actually used them but come one... most everyone who buys them never takes advantage of them ever. By the time your warranty is up your car will have had way more miles on it anyway and you may want something new. I know I change my mind all the time and in 3 years who knows what Ill have. Warranties are for b!tches and you should just say screw it and mod. Buy the car, mod it and drive it like you want to!! We should all just do what we want to our crap and not be limited by a warranty, I worked for a warranty company and quit because of guilt :shhh:

Sorry just venting a little. If something really goes wrong and you had a few hours to work on your car efore you brought it in then your fine. you could get a full exhaust and just disconnect it from the o2 housing and drop it from the hangars and bolt up the stock one in like 10- mins... intake is no problem. You could also get a BOV and mbc and ic piping. I doubt ic piping and an intake would void it but if it did, all that stuff can be swapped in about 2 hours easily....:thumb:

Things that are easy to do, that you could either switch back or that the dealer would not notice are: Intake, and exhaust(little bit of a pain to switch back tot he stock exhaust, but you can do it.) UICP and upgraded CBV. The dealer will not notice a turbo upgrade such as the T-28. You can also do injectors, and they will not notice. An SAFC could also be installed, and when you take it in, just hide it in the center console, or int he dash. You could also port the hell out of the exhaust manni, and O2 housing.

i have to agree with GSXlife there is a lot of stuff you can do to car you might just have to take it off and put it one a lot. Exhaust is a must i say i would also upgrade your intercooler pipeing thats no bigy to take off and put on. as for a new turbo i have had to take off and put on a few turbos myself its not hard, so you can get a new turbo. So i guess is what im telling you is you can get anything that bolts on to your cat but dont mess with the electrical they will know if you did any thing with that :thumb:

Thanks alot for the advice. I wish I would have never bought that d@#% warranty but I didn't want anything to break right off the bat and me be screwed for a ride to work. What all turbos look stock enough for me to swap to? Can I get some version of boost control w/o them knowing? thanks for the help!! :thumb:

do the bcs mod for control or swap back and forth between a mbc and bcs...easy enough to do.

seriously though, if the dealer wants to be a pain about it, they can tell what parts have been modified. they can tell what has been taken on and off the car becuase even though you put it back to stock, its never EXACTLY the same as it was before.

yea but they can't prove your the one that worked on the car. As long as everything is stock who is to say that you took anything off. All you do is act like you don't know crap about cars and they will never suspect anything. Send your wife or girlfriend with the car if you can. If they act like it's thiers they will not know. All they do is say that you bought the car for them to drive back and forth to work.

You got me on that one but if you didn't do anything to it and they didn't check to see if it was modded before they sold it to you then I would think they would have fix it. After all they did sell the warranty to you. If it was modded and they knew it then I would think they wouldn't offer an extended warranty. Who really knows though there are loop holes for everything.

Most aftermarket warranties you buy, they don't care if its been modded or not. A guy locally had his tranny go out and they took care of it. He had all sorts of crap on the car including FMIC.

Just keep all your stock parts and when it's time to go in for warranty work if you smoke your engine, put your stock equipment back on the car and go in. Just buy a new exhaust manfold and turbo and swap it back in if you have problems and take the car over.

Pretty simple.

given that it's a DSM you'll eventually have to take it in a couple times. You'd become a master at the bolt ons :thumb:

You can mod anything you want, just remember if the mod broke the part in question then it is NOT covered. You put a turbo on and the locks stop working, they must fix the locks. The dealer must also PROVE the mod caused the damage.

Example:
I bought a 95 gstcame with BOV with 56K miles. Will at 58K the t-25 died. Because of the mods they would not fix for free, claimed "the BOV caused the turbo to put out more boost". However $250 changed there minds. That way they got the $250 + all of the $$$ from the warranty repair.

in the above case had I could have taken it to court and won but it was not worth the time/effort needed. imo

another example:
Working at a car dealership, I see a LOT of modded cars come in, that don't get fixed. If they did buy the extended warranty however, we would bill the warranty comp full price(not warranty rate) and make everyone happy. Now if the same person came back month after month with a bad motor then thats different.

But in the end it is up to service mang.
