My friend has a 98 GST..He just bought an HKS SSQ BOV and when he opened the box yesterday he had no clue on how to install it. I came over and couldnt figure out how to get the bov mounted....Something to do with the c-clamp and the o-ring. But if we could just figure out how to mount it, we could get the recirculation kit installed...Can anyone help?:(

If he is still using the stock UICP, there should have been an adapter with the kit. Like an alluminum peice, that is small on one end and large on the other. You put the O-ring in that. Then the base of the BOV. And last the snap ring. You will need a pair of snap ring pliers to install it. "NOTE" It is easier if you take the body of the BOV off before installation. It is held on by 4 of the 8 allen screws on the open side of the valve(where the air vents out) Look for the 4 that are a little more raised than the others. While the body is off, you can switch the insert for the for the recirc insert. Then put the other recirc insert in your air intake dump tube. Insatll the valve and adapter assembly onto the abse of the stock UICP. Rotate the valve until it lines up in a position that the 1" hsoe can be installed to finish off the recirculation kit. Good luck.

Not much sound at all. Anything under 10pspi sounds like compressor surge. I dont htink it is true surge. Its just the fluttering of the valve with the insert removed. At high boost it sounds like a farely loud Ka-GGG kind of sound(sorry, its kinda hard to write sounds) Its like a whoosh but with a bit of a chirp. Not bad, but not as good as open. Then again I dont give a crap about sound.

Does anyone know where we can get a pair of snap ring pliers at?? And another thing... His Air Bypass Mount is like impossible to get out of his intake tube. This is required to be removed in order to get the hose in too, because it is much bigger than the hose opening, and the metal piece that the hose connects to is too small to go into it. What the hell do we do cause it is cealed inside with glue you can see leaking out and we've tried yanking it out and crap but it won't budge. Please Help Me

hahah man you sound like me when i got my hks out the box your in kansas right ? i would recomend going to pep boys the snap ring pilers are like 10bucks. Where did you get the recirculation kit ??? i need one. my car is running fine it feels the same as when the stock bov was installed but everyone says its hurting the engine venting into the atmosphere

If you plan to "dump" or vent your BOV to atmosphere (instead of recycling into the Turbo) while using your stock MAS, you will encounter some problems. The DSM MAS senses air going thru it and the ECU (car's computer) calculates the amount of fuel to add. If you "dump" this air instead of recirculating it into the intake, the car will have too much fuel and you'll probably see a puff of black smoke behind you. Also since the RPM drops FAST, if you leave the clutch in too long, your ECU may not be able to pick up idle and the engine may die. Before you buy a BOV that "dumps" (HKS SSV or Apex'i), we recommend you try "dumping" on your car with your present BOV by removing the BOV recirc hose, plugging the intake return tube with a film can or covering with duct tape, and drive the car.

How is this true if the MAS is infront of where the air accually gets recirc. check all the engine photos they all go, Filter, MAS, Then the BOV recirc.

so if the air is going in after the MAS how does it screw up the air fuel by adding too much fuel, i would think there would be too mych air?

Little help her cause i want to by the HKS and i want to vent to the atmosphere but not if its gonns mess things up in my A/F ratio.

I trust my judgement, and Im sticking with venting the HKS S/S when I get it. I trust it because of the dual valve closure to prevent leaking. Id only trust 2 BOV's for venting, the HKS S/S, and the Turbo XS RFL (w/ washers). ;)

If you have an AFC can u change the settings so it doesnt screw anything up if u want to vent to atmosphere. Cause i really want to vent to atmosphere.

What does the kit include ?? The pic is so small. are you running this kit???

The kit includes the adapter to hook into the BOV and a hose to run to the dump tube.

if you guys want that high pitched sound on the hks, don't use the rec. kit, basically make your own rec. kit that will make that high pitched sound, take the hks like it is, with those three spikes in the middle, install that on the uicp, then find a radiator hose, that will go over and cover the whole on the bov, then make sure the other end is correctly secured with a hose clamp on the intake whole. You'll hear the difference me and my friend run this setup, it's flawless. I'm going to do my other friends hks bov this weekend, so i might makes some pics to show you guys what i'm talking about.

I think its a great thing to bring old threads back. It means they used the search function and its not wasting as much server space with a new thread on an old subject. :thumb:
