2002 WRX,
So I bought a Megan DP, and Catback. I thought the DP eliminated the Cat. , turns out it doesn't. So I have a 1ft gap in my new exhaust....

They sell one here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mits...ewItemQQcategoryZ33629QQitemZ7992302568QQrdZ1

But why would I want a TP that drops down to 2.25" !

So I am hoping a muffler place can fab one up, unless there are places I could find one (local tomorrow) that have them premade. Perhaps it's a common size.

Ideas?

Its just a piece of metal piping to free up restriction, so just get the proper flanges and some metal that is the same diameter as the rest of the set-up.

I don't see why people bother with kit components when custom exhaust work is so cheap. Find a guy to do it under the table for cash. Of course, I have no choice since I have no cat and no legit shop will touch my car.

You saying the section from dp to catback is 2.25? If I'm not mistaken, the hotter gasses from the dp flow better, so it's ok to run smaller piping up there and open up the exhaust pipes to 3" as you head back to help flow the cooler gasses. In any case, just head to a shop and have a pipe put in...probably cost you like $30.

Because most people want mandrel bent kits. And a lot of smaller town exhaust places don't have mandrel benders. Like my town, closest place to go is a few town over. Which is over an hour drive.

So for the hastle it isn't worth it. Not to mention most "kits" are made by companies that research the best ways to route or bend to make sure everything flows the best.

And in my case, i didn't want some yokel trying to weld around my car. I'd rather just hang a premade system that i know will line up and work well.

So really, that was just YOUR opinion.

Also, he was saying that from the end of the DP to the Catback is open. There's a space. Where true, hotter gasses can flow better in smaller spaces, gains would still be made from having 2.5-3" at the 02 housing. But with what he was saying, is that in the space that there would be a test pipe or cat, there is nothing. So having something bent to 2.25" after having an already 2.5" or 3" pipe would only hurt flow A LOT.

Your town? Where does the OP mention your town or a "smaller" town for that matter? Just because you live in BFE doesn't mean he does. If you have to drive 1 hour to get to a mandrel bender, it's time to move from your farm. Every shop here has a mandrel bender.

And please...like welding is rocket science and exhaust kits are sooooo well engineered vs custom jobs. Hey, if you want to waste your money, feel free.

Guess that's just MY opinion.

All I have to say is that this comment above mine is a bit out of line, and has no relivance to the OPs question. If you want to start this kind of talk then take it to PM, there is no need for us to have to read it. You gave your opinion, he put in his opinion, because you don't know if he lives in a small town o large town, the OP could live out in the boonies of Cali. So moral of the story take it to Pm if your just going to bash on what another member made a point with, and btw yes custom exhaust is cheaper, and thats what I am doing, but only because I need custom, so I can run things the way I want it, so I am willing to drive over 6hrs away just for it.

First off, nothing in my initial comment called for the attitude of his response, pointing out that was "YOUR [my] opinion". 90% of posts here are opinions, there are often more than one way to do things. Duh! Second, look at OP's mods -- his car is bone stock. You do not need 3" tb exhaust on a stock car, hell even 2.25 is plenty of flow for his car, and even my car's needs. That said, he wants one, sooo....

The OP has a 1 ft gap. He is asking for opinions and doesn't like the option of getting a smaller pipe from Megans so is considering fabbing. So I rendered my opinion like he is apparently asking for with this thread. I gave an argument for and against his choices. Even if he did live in middle of nowhere, you don't HAVE to have a mandrel bender. They can just cut sections to fit the turn and reweld as necessary. As long as the welder is smarter than a chimp, they can do a good job. Check my thread in the Turbo Tech forum if you want to see a custom piece I had done to route my T28 to my fmic inlet; tight turns and angles under the crossmember...wasn't possible to mandrel bend that radius. Price? $80.

Is this the dp section you bought?

If you have a 1ft gap after the flex section and to right after the cat, you don't even need a mandrel bender so again, just get it done at a shop that will do "off road only" setups for cash. Bring your own pipe and it may be cheaper than $30, 10 minutes to do.

I'm confused as to why i'm getting bashed here. All i said was he might not have acess to a shop that could bend a whole system, so maybe thats why he went with a full premade system. Not to mention I even suggested taking it to a shop to have a test pipe fabbed up.

Whatever, i tried to help initally.

Back to the OP. I'm sure even a small shop could make up a test pipe for you. It's a simple thing and you won't spend as much for it as a pre-made piece. But if you still want a premade pipe, check the vendors listing for them.

I know, RRE has a test pipe. I think kteller.com makes them too.
