Alright, I finally figured out the my sim and my injector rings had a leak, replace the manifold gasket and the injector rings so that fixed that leak. Now the question should I be leaking out of the oil cap? Should the leak test be done with the engine at operating temp or could it be cold?

I did the leak test both when hot and then completely cold. I found that a leak around the intake manifold disappeared when the engine was warmed up, I guess the gasket sealed better at temp. I would assume testing hot would be more accurate anyway, as you never boost while the engine is cold. Wouldnt you want to test for leaks at the temperature that the engine runs when boosting?

Well I figured out that the pcv valve was no good so I replaced that with a new oem piece, but I'm still getting a little air in the valve cover even if I plug the pcv hose coming from the intake. Any other ideas what it might be? Thanks.

Take the tester to the Throttle Body elbow. If there is no more air coming out of the oil cap then check your turbo for shaft play. Air can get into the turbo seals and go through your oil lines, in your pan and up into the valve cover area. But if air is still coming out of the cap then do a compression test. Come back with some results

Very nice. :thumb:

Make sure you perform both dry and wet compression test. If the compression tests yield nothing, then it's probably the intake valve seals.

Hi guys, well I got good news and bad news. First the good news I found out that the turbo was the one that was leaking, it wasn't a bad leak but leaking, compression was #1 155 #2 155 #3 145 #4 150, I think that's within spec. Now the bad news as I was doing the boost leak test to double check if it was the turbo the turbo blew the rest of the seal even oil came out of the inlet and of course the car smokes now. So I guess now I need to know what is a good shop to rebuild my turbo or is it pretty easy to rebuild yourself? My turbo is a 20g td06, thanks again.

Well at least your compression numbers look pretty good. Mine are around those numbers as well. As for the turbo, yea I'm sure that thing needs rebuilt. I don't know what shops rebuild turbos but there is an excellent vfaq about rebuilding. It based on the 14b/16g but a turbo is a turbo and has similar parts so I'm sure you could do it. Just be sure to send it to a shop when your done to get it balanced. You don't want that one breaking right after you rebuilt it. Hope that helps
