Just finished a motor swap. when we started it up i noticed the oil presure gauge was at high, it was just about all the way up, we turned it off and the gauge stayed up so my friend thinks it is broken. is the oil pressure gauge suposed to go to zero when car is turned off? the car runs great, perfect with no idiot lights at all. I had the car parked for a while and noticed a small amount of oil under the car. there are like three different spots, it is dripping like oil got sprayed under the whole left side of my car. the is oil on the axle and oil filter housing. i also notice some up by my a/c belt tensioner and on my oil pump sprocket. the leak is very small. just wondering where this might be coming from. my belts do sweal on start up so i think oil may be on them.

thanks

Thats funny cause i have the same exact leaks...no oil pressure gauge problem tho.
I also just gone doing a motor swap ( 6 bolt).
I have oil sprayed on my left axle boot, some on my oil filter housing, and some on the inside of cam sprockets.
I just put the timing cover back on but i would still like to know where its coming from. Im thinking its somewhere in the lower timing cover area. I dont have oil leaking down on the floor when the car is parked tho so its gotta be leaking only when the car is running.

I had this exact problem when I did my 7-bolt build. Turned out to be camshaft seals, as they were the only seals I did not replace. They weren't included with my gasket kit for some reason, so every seal and gasket was replaced but these two. There aren't too many places for oil to leak out on the timing side of the motor, cam seals and the balance shaft plug(if you removed balance shafts) are pretty much the only ones on the top. Anyway, I spent the five bucks on new seals, and bought new belts (timing, A/C, P/S, ALT) just to be safe, as the oil had got to pretty much everything. The end result was zero oil leaks and no oil burning at all. I've checked it time and again, and it's always at the same level. Belts stopped squealing as well. When you have everything apart, be sure to clean EVERYTHING with brake cleaner to get the oil off. Makes for a nice clean motor.

Hope this helps,
Matt.

I haven't had any oil leak problems yet personally, but if there is oil by your belts you need to get that fixed, the last thing you need is oil on your timing belt. Oil will cause the belts to stretch and as a result mess up your timing, which could cost you a new head. You should definitely get the problem fixed ASAP. Good luck man. :talon:

You are probably right as this is what i was told by several others.

Double check your oil cooler bolt AND your oil filter. Mine turned out to be loose but would only leak at higher pressures. Sitting at idle, no leak. Drive it for a while and oil all over.

Guess you didnt read my "high oil pressure" thread, did you? :nono: I had this same problem. It turned out to be either my pump sprocket seal, or my castle plug seal. Its a bizznitch to get to all those things, but hey, get it done right and never worry about it. Having confidence in your ride is SUCH a lovely thing. :sneaky:

Turned out to be a leaking oil pan plug that would spray oil at high pressure and a small crack on the side of the valve cover. Got them both fixed and the oil level has not dropped in about 4 days.

thanks for the posts
