Well I just finished up my car yesterday, I put on a sbr race fmic, new dnp exhaust manifold, 3 inch turboback exhaust w/ 02 eliminator (VRS), oil filter relocator (o2 housing too big), B&M command flow with the gauge, autometer boost gauge, dejon intake pipeing, mechanical boost controller, and walbro 255 lp pump. Still got stock injectors and my little 14b

I think thats everything, but anyways I thought I was gonna be running lean since my car was goin to be able to breath alot better but I was wrong. The thing runs rich as hell, sputters a bit and the exhaust temp feels really low when i put my hand be the tailpipe and I get fuel on my sputterd on my hand when I have it down by the tail pipe (not much but still I dont really wanna see any fuel out the tailpipe).

So I dont really know what to do, do I need SAFC or something to lean out the mix, I dont think its a boost leak cause I hit 16 psi and hold it well when I took it out for a lil spin. There is an oil leak I need to fix at the oil filter relocator thing cause i didnt tighten it down enough but beyond that I dont know whats wrong.

I could be wrong here but the B&M command flow will only adjust fuel up from stock pressure not down might want to check on that i thought i saw a write up on it on vfaq or 1000AAQ

Bingo! We have a winner. The Command Flow will NOT allow you to lean the car out. You're overruning the regulator in a huge way with the 255. Add a correct AFPR (i.e. Aeromotive), dial in the fuel pressure and the condition should improve. Either that or put in a 190 and deal with minimal overrun (the 255 is overkill on a 14B).

Cheers,

Andy

LOL damn, all well guess u always should go with the nice stuff, i was just tryin to save some money with the b&m unit.

I understand where you're coming from, but keep in mind that the fuel pump is really what's kicking your butt. The least expensive alternative is to replace the 255 with a 190.

At the moment, you're very likely washing gas down the piston rings and diluting the oil. When your done adding a proper FPR or a smaller pump, it wouldn't be a bad idea to change the oil and get some fresh stuff in there.

Good luck!

Thanx for your help guys, just ordered an aeromotive with all ss lines for under the hood, so the car will be down another week but at least it gives me time to work on the alarm system and get the oil leak fixed

i have an OBX that is an EXACT copy of the aeromotive unit for half the price no problems with any of their products yet

Hey guys,

Well after I replaced my stock fpr with the aeromotive unit my car has been running 100 times better, I got a few questions though. I noticed after I turn off my car the fuel pressure slowly drops so I dont know if thats normal or not (I have the b&m gauge by the way). Also I noticed that I dont make full boost on my 14B until like 3500rpm, seems a bit laggy to me for that lil turbo but I figured it might be because i have the huge sbr fmic for that lil turbo.

I know that big intercooler might seem like i bit much for the 14B but I wanted to buy something that I would never have to replace again! Anyways also there is this high pitched squealing from the left rear of the car (from the brake I think), its not the pads I checked and I found somewhere that there was a recall for my year of car where they put a shim back that because people were complaining of a squealing noise in the rear.

One more thing :D any tips for preping my car for a looooong drive back to school at Colo. State, I'm in Seattle so I really dont want her to break down in the middle of no where on me!

Thanks!

heh so what about the 3500 full boost and dropping fuel psi after shut off

i would check for exhaust leaks (before turbo) and boost leaks first...beyond that i'm sure some one will have more ideas, those seem to be common ones, and like others say, bring tools, because i don't think these cars were made to be reliable. something always happens, usually. :thumb:

Boost seems about right...mine comes in about 3200 with a SMIC.

Fuel pressure bleed off matches mines too, it'll hold about 5 min or so and slowly bleed off. As long as she starts pretty quickly without needing to crank for a while, I wouldn't worry about it.

As far as the trip, check all the fluids, the timing belt etc. Oh yeah, bring tools like everyone said. I love my car but it far from reliable!!!!

well thanks guys, Im not gonna be able to pass anybody on the way out which sucks. I still have the stock clutch and it slips like a mofo, SBR hasent sent me my fidanza flywheel yet (on back order) so i dont wanna have to open up the tranny until i have it so i can put the sbr 3500 and the flywheel in. I guess it will just keep me from gettin speeding tickets on the way out (lots of straight stretchs for miles). Thanks again guys!
