I did the 'Grey Forrest' hood mod on mines and you can feel the heat rising out. I guess you're looking more for something that will draw air in though. I'm not into spending if I don't have to.

If you're looking for genuine improved cooling, ditch the plans to spend money on a CF hood.. Get a Fluidyne, some decent slim fans, and an RRE c/f reverse scoop.

Fluidyne's are like $375 at RRE and are a busload better than the single core stocker radiator.

just my $0.021254 since I'm a firm believer in function over form.

Too bad it turns into an intake once you start moving, which is bad from an aerodynamic standpoint. You have enough air going into the engine bay as it is. :|

Pj, I believe he is talking about cooling the engine bay, not his coolant. A good suggestion none the less though :thumb:

www.carbontrix.com check out their vents. You'll need something like that to actually exhaust air from the engine bay.
 
Hey guys, well to make a long story short I copied Jesus Riveras drag car hood.

Basically a friend and I measured and cut a rectangular whole in the front center portion of the 2g hood which sits right over top of the exhaust manifold and turbo.

The trick was cutting a straight edge U shape then bending the sheetmetal back (down ward) so it would make a slope from the manifold and then go up. Then we had to build fiberglass walls from the normal hood to the bent flap we had created.

I will post a pick some day but if you were to view picks of Jesus Riveras race car then you would see what I'm talking about.

It was very cheap to do but it did take a few hours to complete so this is a time consuming job. As far as cooling I only have one stock fan and a huge fmic and have not overheated at all. When driving it actually works by sucking out all the hot air thats created by the exhaust manifold.

The reason why it took us a while to complete was we tried some wind tunnel tricks to actually make sure it would work while driving instead of sucking air into the engine bay like other diy mods do. We placed some strings all different sizes and ran them over top of the hood.
We used my friends huge fan at it's different speeds in front of the car to simulate driving at different speeds, and to our surprise the strings all performed the dip over the inverted vent we wanted them to do at every speed.

Basically the hood mod acts like a scavenging affect sucking out all the hot air.

This was a great mod and it gave my car a very menacing look which to me was a bonus ,and to top it all off I didn't spend hundreds of dollares on a cf hood that might or might not have worked as good.

P.s this is very important when working with the hood , If you where to do any mod to your hood don't increase the hoods hight right b4 the opening because this will actually work like a cowl hood, meaning your sucking air in not out. If the area in front of your opening is higher in silhouette then the area after it, it will suck air in, you will want the reverse to suck air out.

Exactly, that's totally wrong. Especially since it sounds like you put some work into making a really good mod.

Hey definitiveno you rock hard core, thanks allot for finding the pics as I'm helpless when it comes to loading pics, that and the fact that I'm on dial up really kills it.

Unfortunately my hood doesn't look as pretty as his hood since I'm leaving it as is (spray painted black so it doesn't attract too much attention from the cops) until I finish off the wide body fender flares.

My goal is to slap on 10 or 12" wide rims on my 2g all the way around and run some very ubber grippy tires so I could tackle any situation that might arise, plus I just love the look of really wide rims and tires on sport cars ;) .
