Hey guys i am fairly new to the dsm world. I bought my friends 2g tsi for 700 bucks with a blown engine. I bought a 6 bolt 4g63 out of a 1990 gsx to swap into the car. I purchased the engine off of ebay and feel as if the seller is not being todally honnest with me.
I would like to confirm that is is truly the 6 bolt turbo engine before i go forward with the swap. It did come complete with a turbo attached to the engine along with all of the lines and fittings but i do not feel this would be hard to put on a 6 bolt NA. Things i have observed that make me think it is a turbo engine.

Water pipe from water pump has fitting for turbo coolant line
The oil filter housing has the 2 fittings for a oil cooler and you can tell that it used to be there.
has a return line on the oil pan
has blue top 450 cc injectors i believe

The things that make me think its a NA engine... The coil packs off the engine said they were from a 92 NT are these compatable with the 90 gsx? I may be paranoid but I dont want to swap a engine that will blow up over 15 psi. Thanks alot, Mike :dsm:

How do youknow the coil packs are for a '92NT? I have a spare setof coil packs from '91 turbo. mark

Hi, Thanks guys... I know the coil packs are off a non turbo because written on them it says 92 N/A in white out marker... They must have been used from somewhere. It does have 6 bolts holding on the flywheel. I also noticed the Knock sensor in the side of the block today. I didnt really want to take off the oil pan but suposed that I should. Are there any other external differences that I can use to tell the engines apart? Did they make a 6 bolt n/t ? Also the oil filter housing has 2 large fittings for the oil cooler set up on it. Did mitsu use a oil cooler on any of there N/T 4g63s ? Thanks :dsm:

Seems like somebody would have had to go through a lotof work and have the parts to make a NT look like aturbo 6 bolt. If youdon't mind what did you pay for it? Mark

Pulling the pan really isn't that difficult. To add to everyone eles check for sqiurters. You have a 6bolt crank.

Yes, I guess it would be a whole lot of work to make it look like the turbo engine. I payed 800 for the engine and 200 for shipping. The engine came with injectors, fuel rail,turbo/manifold,tb/intake manifold, coil packs, new clutch, flywheel, freshly rebuilt head, alternator, power steering pump,ac pump, all the sensors, covers ect. I was told it has 50-60k on it. Im not so sure if i believe this but the engine does look pretty clean. I figured i wanted a engine with all of the small stuff to make my swap alot easier. Do any of you guys happen to know if i can wire the 90 CAS to the 95 harness? Thanks alot guys.
P.S. This forum rocks. I have a Gt28rs miata also and let me tell you, you guys know your stuff alot better than the miata guys. Mike :dsm: :thumb:

Double amen to that... I love mine...

YOu either need dsm link or a black top cas though if you want any hope of running w/o RM aka random misfire... NOT just the green top that should have come with the engine.

get it from an N/a or turbo 93 94 used...

3rd "option"

there has been some conversation regarding using hyundai front cases, pans and timing gear since some of their 4g63 " early block" clones came with crank angle sensors.
I actually canabalized some stuff from a 1.8 hyundai clone motor for my swap (idler arm and rear main seal... thought about the black smooth valve cover too) but i did not look to see if it had a front case with sensor as I was uninterested in that option at the time.

But all the "stuff" that you listed is swapable between motors... only under the pan can you find your engines true identity. to be honest it sounds like a jdm take out motor with all that stuff attached to it and I can't say for certain but I know my injectors are'nt blue topped, nor have I ever noticed a USDM one having blue tops stock

USDM 4G63t has blue tops if it is 90-94
from 95-99 it has black tops
Blues are 440's
Blacks are 440's (could be wrong on that one)
and JDM Evo motors come with yellow tops are 450's (could be wrong about that one too)
But I know for a fact that 1ga'a and 1gb's both came with blues and are 440's :thumb:

cool... all the 1gs my friends have aren't blue tops... must have already changed em out to 2g or bigger injects.

Actually, mine has blues, and they're 450s. It's the automatics that came with different-color 440s (and a smaller turbo), IIRC.

Also, if I don't misremember, isn't there a difference in the oil pan itself? Like the 7-bolts have a dent on the driver's side to make crank clearance, while the 6-bolt are smoothly curved?

Yeh. That was covered in Post #2.
