I have the opportunity to purchase a brand new RSR catback for my TSi and want to know if it would be better/worse than an Apexi N1 catback? I'm not looking to make any serious power right now but I will be in the next year or so. I'm asking this because I've heard from different sources that the RSR is 2.5 and that it is also 2.75 and from some even 3.0, anyone know for sure what the piping diameter is?
 
It will be worse. The RSR is very restrictive. It is also very quiet.

I believe the muffler is 2.25".
 
RSR? I've never heard of them, unless you mean RNR.? In that case their exhausts come in 2.5" and 3" They are good from what I've heard.

RSR is old, they don't make exhausts for our cars anymore.
 
Ok thanks for the replies it was just tempting because it was so cheap and still brand new. And I've only heard good things about RSR's before just never the correct piping size.
 
I was looking for an RSR too but gave up. I want something quiet and stock looking (NO N1). I've decided to just get some 3" mandrel bent piping and weld on a Hooker Max Flow muffler. Yeah, a Hooker muffler.. weird to have it on an import but it's straight-through and supposedly really quiet.
 
Hmm, I looked into it but it's a chambered muffler and supplies backpressure to give low and mid-end torque. Also it looks like an N1... I want something that won't gather attention.

Whatever muffler I get I'm just going to spray it black with some high temp paint. The one I'm interested in looks like this:

Can you confirm that the muffler section really is 2.25? If it is I will have to look into another exhaust.....If its a true 2.75 exhaust then i will get it....
 
mine's coming in the 27th, i'll post here the diameter's. It has to be at least 70mm where it connects to the dp. I never heard of that restriction in the muffler. Everyone i talked to on here always said rsr's were good.

Not doubting you prostreet, i'm just gonna be verry pissed off if i get a muffler with 2.25" outlet. Anyways, i'll let you guys know.

edit: this site says it 3 1/8th. I don't know if it's the same one as on www.turboimport.com tho.

Forreal it would be just plain idiotic to make a 2.75-3inch exhaust piping and have a 2.25 inch muffler, because it would defeat the purpose of everything else....its hard to believe that they would overlook something like that....

Are n1 exhaust as quiet as i hear or will cops still be able to hear me gun it from a mile away......My friend has one on his GSR and its very loud but who knows...maybe dsms are different
 
The N1 on a turboed DSM will not be as loud as your friends GSR(with the N1). You can't compare the 2 cars with the N1. It's like comparing apples with oranges. I have the N1 on my GSX and it's not that loud. I will tell you, at wide open throttle you will draw some attention but it sounds good. It's more of a deep tone compared to the extremely loud, obnoxious, raspy, tin can sounds from a NA honda at WOT :barf: I speak this from experience since I've owned both and hear them on a daily basis.
 
Ok i Got my RS*R. It's 3in straight through the muffler. I looked for a restriction similar to the one the n1 has in the muffler. I didn't see anything. The sound is good. Nice and quiet at idle or normal driving, but wot it's a nice deep noise. I did this instal with a apexi GT dp also. Only problem I'm having now is I boost creep really bad. :(
